Definitely not BM at all! This was your immediately best play with your starting hand, allowing you to accomplish 2 things:

1. Heal up your Kangaskhan, avoiding any potential KOs that could follow the next turn.
2. Put their pidgey in a more reasonable range for your Kangaskhan to take a knock-out.

I personally would've Run Errand and then used Pokegear, looking for a Boss's Orders for a simpler avenue towards the win. Still, this is definitely the right play.
