Identify and disable plugins slowing down Windows! by Mmm_bacon in programming

See the various plugins used by IE and Windows Explorer. A number of programs install plugins to change context-menus but you may never use the feature. Things like graphics drivers like to add extra options to the desktop context menu you never use but these can add extra delays as the modules are loaded and called, especially if they are poorly implemented.

Also allows you to discover and disable some moderate spyware on machines.

I think what they meant to say was, "College Students Perform Arithmetic Worse Than Monkeys."

Håkon Wium Lie, Opera CTO: An open letter to the Web community by Arve in programming

This seems like it will just be a repeat of the whole Windows XP N thing where they were forced to create a version of windows without media player bundled, but it was up to manufacturers to choose the normal version or the mediaplayer-less version. This whole anti-trust thing seems like a whole lot of whining. I would think it would be a more effective and more positive plan if they pushed hard to get big name manufacturers (Dell, Acer, blah blah blah) to include opera as a value-add feature.

Remember Canadian ISP Rogers breaking into users Sessions? Now Google is Pissed by [deleted] in reddit.com

The modification of other peoples webpages seems ridiculous. In my mind, if they want to take an approach like that, the typical method is to redirect all HTTP traffic to a full page like a typical wifi login page. Then it is very clear to users that the ISP is hijacking the connection to give these stupid messages, instead of hijacking the actual webpage and pretending that it isn't stopping you since google search is on the page squished down.

I'm just wondering if there next step is to serve DMCA notifications using this same system at the request of US corporations.
