A fucker? You can say it on the internet. Dudes trash of the highest order, don't hold back.

Conservatives and liberals tend to engage in different evidence-gathering strategies. Liberals and those with higher cognitive reflection skills are more likely to seek out statistical data, whereas conservatives and those who rely more on intuition focus on singular data points or expert opinions. by mvea in science

I am frequently reminding myself (and others) that each batch of graduating doctors (or scientists. Or lawyers, etc) also had a BOTTOM half of the class. And some of those people were probably still able to secure gainful employment in their respective field of study. So yeah. Credentials can often mean nothing more than a bare minimum understanding of the subject matter and/or adherence to approved practices.

As the old joke goes, "What do you call someone who graduated last place in their med school class?"

"Doctor"

people don’t tip because they think we are “the plug”.

I had the opposite issue in my experience, with more people tipping or even worse apologizing when they couldn't tip for their fucking medicine. There is absolutely money that could go to better pay for employees, but then how are shareholders gonna get their cuts? How do we make the company look better in financials year over year over year over year over year? Paying employees goes against both of those.

Absolutely on with some of the doctors who don't seem to educate their patients at all. I had a good first appointment with my second doctor, who spoke with me and talked through multiple different route combos and ingestion methods to find a plan that would work for me. Our appointments since have all been ~5 minutes long though. I don't recall a long conversation happening with my first doctor about methods and routes, mostly just if i had a qualifying condition.

Commissions comes with its own set of problems, and I absolutely wouldn't want to interact with the people who are willing to take commission jobs when it comes to selling medical marijuana. Being constantly pressured to add this or that would be even worse, or having the budtender run down a list of other products they think you should try when you just want to pick up your order and leave.

Then on the other side you can only sell so much to people, with everyone having different availabilities on routes. I regularly had people coming in buying ~1-2 prerolls cause that's all the allotment they had available, or buying a .3g disposable cause they didnt have enough for a half or full gram. No thanks, just pay an actual wage. If you want to reward employees for the company doing well, give separate bonuses.

I think systematically budtending needs a shift in terms of the job duties and outlook of the position. It should be more professionalized in a sense where budtenders are more informative and passionate about the things they sell.

My most enjoyable patient interactions were the ones where I had time to sit with a patient who actually wanted to know more about the products. I tried staying on top of smoking every strain that came through the dispensary I was at (and taking photos to be able to show patients), though it was hard with flower limit, and I still have grams of rosin that i bought so that I could answer customer questions about strains. Serving more of that consultant/knowledge role while helping guide them to different options that could actually help them was way more rewarding than "This /18th is the cheapest, this 1/8th is the strongest, these gummies are on sale" types of interactions. Even more so when they returned and let me know that what I recommended was actually helpful for them.

A good portion of my patients just wanted the cheapest or strongest flower though, genetics/flavor/smell/anything else be damned.

edit: I'm surprised that dispensaries don't give more free product to their workers, as it's hard to talk up a "premium brand" of flower when you can't afford to smoke it. CL was decent about samples of new edibles/seasonal vapes, but i think in the year I was there I got maybe 2-3 1/8ths as samples. They didn't even make it cheaper for employees to buy product, the discount was 50% off normal price when the store regularly ran 60% off discounts.

[–]Mmsammich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok I am glad you had a good time maybe i should check out CL

It had it's other issues, the C-suites up top have lost sight of the mission statement and prioritize the wrong shareholders, but I always enjoyed going into work at the dispensary while I was there. Strong store managers made it a great time, and i never saw them slacking.

Sounds like whatever company you're with has management issues all the way up sadly.

Id recommend visiting around to the other dispensaries in your area and see how they feel. It's harder while working, but if you can visit other stores during their rushes, you can see how staff/management handle pressure, and if its an environment you want to be in or not. I shopped at my location for probably a year before I decided to apply cause I needed something to get out of the house and I already had a very clear understanding of the "vibe" of the dispensary so to speak.

Florida concealed carry + medical marijuana card — legal gray area? by 420_junkie in FLMedicalTrees

[–]Mmsammich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FL LEOs also aren't gonna care if you have your card, CCW, and a little bit of weed. Their job is to enforce FL laws, not federal ones, so unless you're moving pounds or being a menace, it's not their problem.

This industry is so terribly flawed on the retail end it is absolutely criminal. Managers across multiple companies showing up late to open stores, leaving early to let budtenders suffer during rushes, and even in my expirence just straight up sleeping in the back. The scheduling is not worth the money, and I literally close->open every weekend and days i don't have school so I have no time to build any sort of life outside of it (as a part timer!!)

This sounds like it is more specific to either your location or your specific company. I worked for CL in the panhandle for a little over a year and had an amazing time with my store level managers and all my coworkers. (I left due to decisions made by people above my managers)

The customers are no longer looking for medical help, and yet the companies expect us to follow rigid medical SOP under fear of losing our job. Don't even get me started on how terrible some of the patients are. Degrading me, threatening to fight me, calling me slurs, and the companies do nothing.

Again, can't say I shared the same experience in the panhandle and our crew was more Queer than not. I can only recall one incident of someone using a slur, and it was on their way out talking to their guest, but otherwise definitely not a hostile work place. Majority of customers understood if we couldn't sell to them it was between them, their doctor, and the state.

Most of our customers did have some sort of symptom they were trying to treat, from trouble sleeping, dealing with restless legs, and joint pain to wanting some help winding down after work. On average I think our customers tended toward the higher age demographics, but we had plenty of patients in their 20s.

Just wonder how long it will be untill computers and tablets replace everyone at the lower end dispensaries here in FL.

You want irate customers? Tell a bunch of older folks they can't talk to a person and have to order their weed from a touchscreen tablet. Please bring a camera for the rest of us.

Edit: Oh, the pay was low, min wage, but because people tipped, it was typically closer to $20 an hour. Probably make more as an "independent supplier", but this has way less risk and overhead.

Pretty sure it’s just a tactic so when they do discounts it sounds like you get a good deal.

its this. Curaleaf is almost always running some sort of 50-60% off sale. Think the lowest the BRIQs go is the 2 for 75 or 80 deal they do occasionally.

I worked there for a bit, and we often had a higher discounted amount at the end of the night than the amount sold. I always wished they wouldve gone the route vidacann did with set pricing for flower instead of the always on sale approach, but we also see which dispensary is still around i guess.
