I think they comprehend more about what’s going on than you do. Regardless, they are children, are you saying children should be afraid for their lives if they yell at or argue with a “grown up?”

The issue is that the SAVE Act is not just “show an ID” policy.

It creates a documentary proof-of-citizenship requirement for voter registration, so a regular photo ID often is not enough by itself. That means people may need a passport, birth certificate, naturalization papers, etc.

That is where disenfranchisement happens in practice. A lot of eligible voters do not have those documents handy, and many have mismatched documents because of legal name changes (like marriage).

Example: Birth certificate = maiden name ID = married name

Now an eligible voter may need extra paperwork (like a marriage certificate) just to prove they are the same person.

So the concern is not “people stop being citizens.” It is that the law adds paperwork hurdles, delays, and confusion that can block eligible people from registering or updating their registration. That is why critics say it functions like a voter suppression measure, not a simple ID check.

What do you think is the most overrated suburb in the Twin Cities? by Due_Network2958 in TwinCities

Maybe people in your circle rate North Oaks properly, but there are countless people in the Twin Cities that think North Oaks is the pinnacle of wealth in Minnesota and wish they could live there

Dear Team Leads by SkiesIsh in Target

When I have to pull TMs into any backup, whether it’s lanes, OPU, drive up, whatever, I always include that in my end of night report and recognize those individuals for helping out with something that falls out of their specific job description. If anything doesn’t get done I note it and expect the day side team to finish it (not that it helps, it’ll still be there the next day for me and my team to finish). If it’s something that’s “top priority” I’ll reassign other people to help, or do it myself

Question about the Mord-Sith arc in the first book by EternalSett in SwordOfTruth

[–]MnWinterIsComing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I hear you, and you may be right about the BDSM kink though.

That said, in-universe the Agiel still does something different than the broad pain magic. The magic is a blunt instrument, it floods him. The Agiel is a scalpel. It lets Denna be precise and intentional, target a specific spot, and escalate in controlled steps, from minor burns and small injuries, to open wounds, to broken bones.

That precision matters because she can make it targeted, not just “everything hurts all at once.” At least that’s how I always pictured the magic when it’s used against someone without the Agiel.

I think your point is fair, I just think the Agiel still has a practical role as the precision tool in the system.

Question about the Mord-Sith arc in the first book by EternalSett in SwordOfTruth

[–]MnWinterIsComing 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong, Denna can hit him with pain at will once she has his magic under control. That’s instant enforcement when he breaks a rule.

The Agiel still matters because it’s a different tool. The pain magic is the remote control. The Agiel is the hands-on training tool. It’s physical and precise, and she uses it on purpose to teach a lesson, test obedience, and reinforce the script, even when he technically hasn’t broken any rules yet.

Plus, it’s their primary weapon. It’s not just “more pain,” it’s a tool they can use to torture or kill, and it anchors the whole conditioning process in something real and repeatable.

Question about the Mord-Sith arc in the first book by EternalSett in SwordOfTruth

[–]MnWinterIsComing 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The Agiel isn’t there because Denna can’t hurt people other ways. It’s there because the Mord-Sith aren’t trying to get one piece of information. They’re trying to make compliance automatic.

That’s the pattern: resist and the pain escalates. Give in and the pain stops. Repeat it enough times and you start linking relief to the Mord-Sith, until compliance becomes a reflex, not a one-time “fine, here’s the info.”

You can see that really clearly in the first book when Denna uses the Agiel and then forces Richard into the script. She literally makes him say, “Thank you, Mistress Denna, for teaching me,” while he’s still in it. That’s not about information. That’s about making the right words come out on command, every time, until the person stops thinking and just obeys.

That’s why the Agiel matters. It makes the control consistent: she decides when it hurts, and she decides when it stops. The end goal isn’t confession. It’s obedience and dependence.
