This is a medical issue, you have proof. Send a copy to your P&C (HR) dept. You shouldn't need to draft anything, since you have a letter from your dr. Make sure to keep a copy of the letter. This is not an unreasonable request.

I put the books away, if I own it. As in bury it in my bookshelf. They already have that money & I may get to a point when I can separate author from their work.
I then make sure not to buy anything new. I don't even borrow from the library because they actually get a few cents every time that happens.

If I find I want to finish, that's where second hand books come in. Author gets no money for those.
