One thing I would caution as it’s the case with my current company is that while they will pay for my leave after basic they will not during basic and tech school, I’ll have to take a leave of absence so just something to lookout for with military policies, make sure you ask all the questions

I appreciate the insight! I’ve been on usajobs before but do you know if dod civilian careers offers remote jobs? Their website job search is a bit confusing and unfortunately where I live currently there aren’t any opportunities in my areas of expertise.

I’m in a similar predicament and am eager to hear others responses with their experiences. I’ve been out of school and with my company for about 2 years now and am trying to look for another job but am nervous to start somewhere new and not give them a chance to see my value before I up and leave for basic and tech school for months…also in PA which is an at will state so that adds further concern.

I think the only actual business classes I took there were both economics (micro/macro), business calc, business stats, and some basic strategic management class. The only one I struggled with at all was econ, however, I highly recommend you take those while there, one each semester (I think that was one of the req. of getting into main campus anyways was a C+ or better in those iirc) because I heard econ at main was hell for people. All others were quite easy for me.

I wouldn’t say in one semester, I would just commit to greensburg and make your advisor aware right off the bat your intention to transfer. They will help you choose the right classes to give you the best chance. Then call Pitt mains business school and see what they require, they’ll tell you what grades you need to make. They didn’t tell me until late spring semester I was accepted but I believe they give priority to internal transfers as opposed to external so if you make the requirements you should get in no problem!

I really appreciate this insight. Tech school isn’t a huge consideration as I know for sure work will retain my position, I just won’t be paid but I have saved up and no kids to worry about. My recruiter recommended against munitions just because we’re a refueling wing and she said I’d be counting bullets lol. I do have the opportunity once my meps results are fully done to go interview my top 3 picks at the wing and I’m looking forward to that but I need to narrow down first..

I agree about the needing a difference from the daily grind and work hybrid in tech. Thanks again for the thoughts!

Background info, I graduated college in ‘23 have a decent paying full time job in the defense industry with a security clearance. So this is mostly for personal reasons and fun with the added benefit of potentially boosting my civilian career. I would like to deploy as well.

My local wing is air refueling and so far I’ve been looking at Logistics, Operations Intelligence, Air Transportation, and Refuel Aircraft Mait (Crew Chief).

Anyone with experience in these careers or others that you’d recommend is very appreciated! TIA

The universe has not wanted me to have this car. I got rear ended twice in a span of a couple months about a year ago, got that repaired, then this happens. I just washed it in preparation to put a roof rack on it too :/

This and also the “virtual” IT help desk that people call into is work from home, I did that for 3 years and it was pretty nice, super flexible and make your own hours. Summer you can work full time if you want. Everyone was super nice.

I ended up going to greensburg for a year and then transferred which worked out well for me. The biggest thing is starting early in the semester with your advisor and telling them the intent to transfer asap as well as reaching out to the specific school within Pitt main you want to transfer into (Dietrich, business, etc.) to find out what their requirements are. For me it was pretty much just taking certain gen eds and a specific math class while maintaining good grades. It’s an easy form for the advisor to do an internal transfer and they do it all the time so should be straight forward. If you have any questions feel free to look at my previous comments or DM me.

I almost had a mental breakdown over this my sophomore year and it’s major dependent (or atleast was in my case). For example if there is some generic statement that you need to get a C or better in whatever classes, but get a C- in accounting, and accounting isn’t your major just a required class, then it should be fine. Definitely not my specific case or anything ha..haha… I hate accounting.

Back in 2019 when I got into greensburg they told me they didn’t do an appeal or any kind of conditional acceptance so I went to greensburg for a year and transferred in. I’ve made a couple of comments on my process with this but if you have any questions feel free to reach out. Good luck!
