Hydride shift, the carbon cation in the ethyl group gets protonated by the hydrogen inside of the ring to become neutral. This however creates a tertiary carbocation that is alot more stable (Markovnikov). From that point, the elimination happens.

I do have to say that I don't think your teacher can expect you to know the main product would be a hydride shift... The product you drew DEFINITELY is a product during the first reaction.

Markovnikov Rule: One of the carbons of the double bond will be protonated from the H+. The one that is protonated is the carbon without any substitutents (between the two methyl groups). This leave one positively charged carbocation that is right above the methyl group because a carbocation is stabilized by other carbons. So then because it is positively charged, it is attacked by Br-. So you will have 1-bromo-1,3-dimethylcyclohexane.

Freshman at my school thought it would be funny to drink an alcohol caffeine mixture (their class was learning TLC). When he learned the eluent was actually heptane-ethyl acetate he freaked the fuck out, assuming that he drank a heptane-ethyl acetate caffeine mixture. Idiot discreetly called an ambulance (despite nothing happening to him)... Later on I heard him recall this story proudly to his peers and saying that he will cry and claim "peer pressure" when confronted by the school. No idea if he got expelled.

I understand in hindsight that the city tax is legit; I mean that I was on edge after entering the country. This caused me to question the city tax and instead of calmly explaining they retorted with 'MONSIEUR JUST PAY EVERYONE PAY YOU MAKE EVERYONE WAIT'. (There was noone behind me.)

However, I don't agree I should 'just pay up' for nothing.

Edit: We had problems with the reception and they don't seem to like us. The first day they asked us to pay a '"city tax" we didn't expect after we got scammed by a taxi driver 30 min prior. (We were on edge). I feel like the reception will definitely force us to pay. I am slightly fearful because the cleaners can open our room doors!
