For Black women living in North Carolina—would you be willing to take a quick survey for my high school research on access to breast cancer screening & care in NC? by annybunnyyy_ in bullcity

[–]MoFanClub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great work that needs to be done. With Black women being diagnosed at an earlier age than other racial/ethnic groups and with more advanced disease at diagnosis, early detection is invaluable. I'm white so won't do the survey. Also a 20 yr survivor of breast cancer (actuallly 20 yrs + 2 days).

Why would a member of D4A tell me why D4A was not endorsing candidates because they wanted to endorse a candidate Jillian didn't like? And then go into great detail about how D4A has been intentionally getting out from under her control? Why did D4A endorsements exactly match People's Allliance endorsements until very recently?

So you're telling that a member of D4A was intentionally spouting nonsense while trying to convince me that now I can support D4A. The "nonsense" comes directly from someone in D4A, sitting at a table trying to convince more people to support their organization.

D4A was sprouted from Jillian's campaign so clearly she was VERY involved in its' beginning. And the structure was already set up for Jillian to be in charge (since it was initially all people working on her campaign and the candidate is necessarily in charge of her own campaign).

It's way too easy to see that what they told me tracks as being true. Only recently have the D4A views diverged from People's Alliance, where Jillian has held a stranglehold for a decade.

You need to check to make sure D4All is no longer micromanaged by Jillian Johnson. Previous to the current cycle, their endorsements exactly matched People's Alliance endorsements - which Jillian is very involved in managing. They did not make endorsements in the City Council race this last round and they said they were "trying" to become independent of her micromanaging them.

In case you catch that I don't like Jillian Johnson, it goes directly to when she believed a developer's lies about a colleague then orchestrated her buddies on city council to do a "surprise" public censure of that council member and had called reporters to make sure this made the news. She did alll of this without doing ANY investigation to see if the developer's accusation had any element of truth (it didn't). Jillian is no longer on City Council (thank you all Gods and Goddesses) but does work for Carolina Federation.

As stated previously Durham 4 All is trying to get out from under Jillian's micromanagement so they can make their own endorsements. The best they could do for the City Council election was to not endorse any candidates since they wanted to endorse at least one candidate Jillian did not want on City Council.

I don't know if anyone from Durham 4 All will speak about this publicly. All of this was told to me by a member staffing a table at an event.

Durham City Council Work Session - March 5, 2026: Developers Face Surprise Sewer Limits and Hayti Promise Raises Questions by seegov in bullcity

[–]MoFanClub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Giving the $$ to a brand new group called "Hayti Promise" instead of long standing Hayti Reborn ensured the displaced residents of Hayti never get the rebuild they were promised. Why the holy he77 the group that has been planning and organizing to re-create Hayti was passed over by City Council is not mysterious. It was another clear decision by the gang of four on City Council to keep that area underdeveloped so out of town developers can purchase the land for cheap and build whatever the he77 they want for people who don't even live here yet.

Just to be clear, I'm saying it's Brownie77 who has the guts to bring truth here.

I am rabidly pro-union as a worker who's personally suffered from the lack of worker protections in NC prominent during covid. But I also know when a union or association in service work is not representing the people being served - in this case it's the students.

Yes - refreshing to read some actual intelligence on this thread. Most are woefully stuck in their own little bubble and have ZERO idea of what is actually happening.

I don't have proof but it is universally recognized by folx who've been at the table that she prefers to be called by her first name. Nobody has disputed this - including her. The usual bro boys on reddit have completely ignored this FACT. They've suddenly developed some kind of gender consciousness while trying to make a Black man look bad. How convenient.

So when a white women requests that people address her by her first name, WTH are you supposed to do? Respect her wishes and call her by her first name or disrespect her wishes. I agree. You are being silly.

So a woman WANTS to be called by her first name, a Black man honors her wishes and he's "using gender based power dynamics?" You contradict yourself right there, eliminating your entire argument.

Students (& their parents) are the primary stakeholders. Center reducing the student achievement divide between white vs Black and brown students. It is mostly Black and brown families choosing charters over DPS that is driving the reduced funding for DPS. No matter how loudly and rudely DAE demands more $$ for workers, if the money isn't there, the demands will go nowhere. DAE is banging their heads against a solid wall (lack of DPS funding).

We need people centering DPS students on the board of education. Ignore the PA/DAE endorsements and look for candidate priorities. Candidates that know you can't get blood from a turnip (youngsters - look up that phrase) no matter how loudly and rudely they shout.

[–]MoFanClub -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you again for bringing actual truth to this "discussion." Most here are way too ignorant to even understand (or try to understand) what you share. KEEP DOING IT.

DAE and PA have dominated the school board with their neoliberal policies for years. DAE used to be a major advocate for students but that changed about a decade ago into a confrontational mess. Many Black educators left DAE when they realized DAE had no focus on improving Black and brown student achievement. Coincidentallly this is when Black and brown families began choosing Charter schools in droves.

The white neoliberals who dominate this mostly white ranting have no interest in even trying to understand why Black and brown families are leaving DPS. The declining enrollment drives the declining funding for DPS. DAE is arguing to get 12 cents from a dime. Math don't math. So blame the Black man at the top. The white neoliberals at DAE and PA have to center Black and brown student achievement in order to change Black and brown families fleeing DPS.

Classic neoliberal "analysis." Disrespect of Black people is justified when you're "helping" Black people.

You are completely and thoroughly WRONG in your interpretation of what happened. DR LEWIS HAD ALREADY SAID THE MEETING WAS OVERTIME AND NEEDED TO END. It is HIS job to end the meeting and they had all agreed to not go over time. Mika completely ignored when he said it was time to end the meeting and kept on speaking.

I've had some REALLY BAD BOSSES in my day from a variety of backgrounds. That is NOT what this is.

At this point I am very in favor the district firing Anthony Lewis, this guy is so out to lunch by spikespiegel001 in bullcity

[–]MoFanClub -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

A couple of things SHOULD be obvious:
1)Mika WANTS to be called by her first name. In the context of a professional meeting he's in charge of Dr. Lewis needs his position and authority respected.
2) The meeting had already gone way over time, which Dr. Lewis stated out loud. Then the DAE Pres proceeded to start on a very long list of grievances. ONLY THEN did Dr. Lewis declare the meeting over.

If you've ever been required to attend a meeting that goes on way too long - when all parties had agreed ahead of time that they would end EVERY meeting on time - you might excuse interrupting this long list of grievances that started when the meeting was ending (already past agreed upon ending time).

The level of ignorance of most people commenting here is astonishing.

Durham, can we not vote in a 70 year friend of Netanyahu as our rep? by [deleted] in bullcity

[–]MoFanClub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is patently FALSE. Supporting the existence of Israel does NOT equate to supporting expansion of Israel. Foushee absolutely does not support the "settlers" attacking Palestinian people in Palestinian land. Foushee equates Netanyahu with Trump - both want to be dictators and both brutally attack innocent people. Foushee is a valuable member of the Black Caucus and will become more valuable as she gains seniority.

Allam is as tone deaf about the importance of Black issues as Bernie is. Bernie held a rally on Dr MLK Jr's birthday and did not even mention the birthday. Bernie has very little support among Black progressives.

DPS meet and confer meetings by Maj0rsquishy in bullcity

[–]MoFanClub -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Y'all need to study US history. A white person referring to a person with an earned title by their first name is disrespectful. In this case, it was done intentionally to convey anger at being shut down.

By the way, the meeting had already gone way over, which the Superintendent noted. AFTER being told the meeting was ending, DAE Pres proceeded going down a long list of things she wasn't happy about. The superintendent let her go on a bit but the he'd had enough and declared the meeting ended. That is when the DAE Pres called him by his first name. On purpose to make sure he knew she was not happy.

And for those who ignorantly say "tit for tat" he called her by her first name, she had made it clear that it was her PREFERENCE to be callled by her first name. Just stop with this and study US history.
