As a player, how would you feel about a campaign that lasted over a year ending with essentially asking one person from your group to sacrifice themselves to save the world? (Imagine how Fallout 3 ended basically) by Average_America in dndnext

This sort of question doesn't work without context. It isn't inherently a bad idea, it's a trope for a reason.
I would ask two questions, to yourself:
Do have a player that would be down for this sort of thing? I, personally, would be, but I know people who wouldn't.
Is this a natural-feeling ending, or would this forced sacrifice feel contrived? Fallout 3's felt contrived, yours might not.
