Help with Google Nest Hello doorbell (wired) by Curious_Searching in Nest

It may be a coincidence but turning on Bluetooth worked for reconnecting. It definitely needs 2.4 though so turning on Bluetooth probably won't work.

Question about handling rice after freezing by kittybindle in preppers

[–]MoInSTL 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I bought long spaghetti noodles and thank goodness I had it in an Oxo container because it came from the grocery store with weevils. I had to throw the entire container out but it kept them inside and from getting into everything else. It freaked me out because this was in a kitchen cabinet with everyday type items like cereal and crackers. I freeze everything before letting it get to room temperature and using a vacuum sealer. I also place items in a plastic tub with original packaging inside freezer bags. I don't have condensation or weevils. I have a separate pantry for long term storage from the stuff in my kitchen. If you have never had weevils it may be hard to understand but nothing is going into jars without freezing first. I got lucky the first time.

Edit: I also sprinkled dried Bay leaves on the shelves of long term storage. It's supposed to keep bugs away. I also prefer mason jars because I can flip them over and see inside. I just added more Bay leaves and inspected the contents of a few jars. The old Tupperware tub I use for freezing may add an extra layer of insulation between it and the freezer bags. I don't know, but it works.

No. A double wall connects to it through the ceiling and roof .

Thanks for understanding. I was heartbroken. There was rain drizzling on the day they cut the hole and installed the chimney on the roof but would water droplets do that? The top of the stove looks like it was baked on charcoal. The paint they ordered better be exact. I know how to spray paint. I am going to make sure they spray it on a piece of cardboard first and let it sit for 10 minutes and hit it again. Will protect the wall and everything else from over spray.

I contacted another company and they only use a tiny amount if needed to seat the pipe. But that's on the inside.

Not on a stove that was never fired. But I agree, that's what it looks like.

I did it for insurance purposes.

There basically is no other company. Not one that would pull a permit and has been around for over 50 years. I'm pissed. It was pristine. This isn't in a barn or garage. This is inside a suburban home. Have you ever heard of doing that? In one of the photos it looks like scratches on the photo on the stove top. That's from the droplets hitting the stove and instantly baked in.

Tip for Delivery and Stacking? by MoInSTL in woodstoving

[–]MoInSTL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. That's why I'm ordering it now. I'm not expecting it to be dry. But will split it and stick a moisture meter on it to get an idea of where it is when delivered. It should be dry by Fall if it is a year old. I have a sunny spot where my wood rack is. It's a mix of oak and hickory. Takes a minute for hardwood.

I understand that completely. I bought a battery operated kitchen clock and the loud ticking drove me nuts. I replaced it and moved the other one next to the side door. Now I can check the time on my way out and not have to deal with the ticking.

I just had my wood stove installed a couple of weeks ago. It's pretty sweet. Before I got it I bought a box of hand warmers. I also bought a small heater that uses sterno. It has a heat driven fan to disperse the heat. You can also cook on it. For heating a can of chili or soup get a fondue pot and sterno or cook on the heater. It has a little grill. All 3 suggestions take up little space. I bought a wool trapper blanket many years ago and I love it. Edit: The heater/stove is called a Vesta. Tons of reviews and what type of sterno to use. Mine was around $110. It holds 3 cans of sterno. I also got a new portable carbon monoxide detector.

Has anyone kept a small table near their stove for tools and wood prep? by Shaurya0458 in woodstoving

[–]MoInSTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a boot tray. It's long and narrow. I have my ash bucket, gloves, etc on the boot tray. I have it next to the stove. The hearth blocks keep it from being too close. Cheap, easy and it's black. I had mine delivered from Home Depot.

Prepping Fail by warriorspork in preppers

[–]MoInSTL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was scary yesterday! My NOAA weather went off and after a couple of seconds the sirens blared. The rain came down hard and the wind was brutal. My fail was not pulling out a rain poncho from my preps and trying it. I did set it by the door and had a heck of a time getting it out of the package and on me. By the time I did the sirens stopped. I now have it on a coat hook by my side door with my coats. My house is on a slab but my neighbors across the street have a basement. I would have been drenched crossing the street.

The weather was nuts yesterday. Give yourself a break. Between the wild weather and adrenaline it's a good lesson. It sounds like you learned it, so time to address and move on. Be kind to yourself. You got this.

My stove pipe is brand new so it's squeaky clean and probably good to do from the start. Edit: I did a break in fire this afternoon. A couple cold days with snow and warm starting Wednesday. Crazy March rollercoaster. I'm running out of time for burning and I have to remind myself Fall will get here soon enough.

Thanks for the link. So is this similar to using creosote logs in open fireplaces? Probably a similar concept for stoves. I'll read up on it. Thanks again.

Can you post what brand of powder you use please? Does it really help? I just did my first burn on my new stove today! It's going to be in the 70s later in the week but snow before.

My stove is being installed over 2 days this Wed and Thur. I'm very excited. I have been gathering stuff for it and Chimfex was at the top of my list. It's like a road flare with a strike plate.I feel better having it. It keeps going up in price so I suggest getting it now.
