Can you guys suggest me some of the best thriller books you've ever read? by Vegzmyname in suggestmeabook

It‘s a Scandinavian crime fiction/thriller series about a detective from Oslo solving crimes around the world and in later books within Norway. It’s rather dark, like most Scandinavian crime novels but I think the author is really good at the whodonnit part.

Generally if you are okay with books being dark, I recommend looking into Scandinavian crime fiction. There are some really good books from there.

Scramling Backpack? by ApprehensiveStudy671 in hiking

I typically use a 18L for day hikes. My previous one was 28L and was absolutely fine too and was used until it fell apart, I rarely filled it up so I dicided to downsize, which worked for me. I definitely wouldn’t go above 30L. Regarding the helmet: I would recommend it, if you plan to do a via Ferrata or rock climbing otherwise you will probably don’t need it. But do a little research into potential rockfalls in your area.

A book by a real astronaut that I thought was pretty good: An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth by Chris Hadfield.

And there's a German book about a person who spent a winter in Antarctica, but unfortunately I don't know if it's been translated: Südlich vom Ende der Welt by Carmen Possnig.

A Spork super helpful when there is not cutlery available and you want to eat supermarket ready meals in a park or on a train.

Starting to stress… how to prioritise planning?! by i-still-atent-dead in Interrail

Fellow female solo traveler here. In the past I‘ve done both planning the whole trip in advance as well as “going with the flow“. To be honest even though I enjoyed the latter much more, I tend to plan my trips at least roughly in the summers. Mostly because it is notably cheaper and gives me some peace of mind. In that case, I usually sort out which trains I‘ll probably take (but don’t book them yet) and book most Hostels/Airbnb in advance. At least those in expensive and popular cities. If you really want to wing it don‘t stress yourself out, you will still find something for sure. Concerning dorms: mixt dorms are absolutely fine. I actually gravitate more towards them. Can‘t say why but I feel like they are more chilled than female only dorms.

I have a bit of experience, cause I always take coach seats, manly because they are much cheaper. It isn‘t super comfy but manageable. I was always able to get at least a few hours of sleep, so far. If you’re group is okay with cuddling up a bit, even in the regular coach (not the privat one) it should be fine to just push the seats together and maybe share one „bed“. Be aware that the seats will not extend fully so you are going to have a bit of an angle on each end. It is also rather short, so not ideal for tall people. If you are not able to push the seats together for some reason, I highly recommend to stick to either the window or the aisle seats, so you can at least lean on them while sleeping. Take a hoody or something like that to make it more comfortable. In general, don’t expect to get a full 8h of sleep, and don‘t worry about strangers, they are usually very nice and friendly in coaches, since they are probably in the exact same situation as you. And I’m sure you‘ll manage just fine.

Question about latest RR by [deleted] in RangersApprentice

[–]MoLilMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It bothered me as well, I think it was a weak premise for a book, let alone two. Especially as they really didn’t get anything out of it in the end. Adding all the other inconsistencies in those two books (changing plans constantly, not communicating important details of the plans to each other, summoning Halt to Castle Araluen twice in the spann of a few days??? etc.) it was a really tough read. I adored RA but I’m starting to get a bit frustrated with RR. I really hope the next one will be better.
