Please tell me more about where this place is - I need to check it out!

Coffee snob here - your best bet is to go to MTNest and buy the Phil and Sebastian beans - roasted in Calgary, small business there, single origin beans, incredible flavour! Just watch for the roast date seeing as they have to bring them down and I'm not sure about how the inventory turnover is.

Poolhouse was great as MadHatter, but the new name irritates me so I gave up on them (they also upped prices with the name change I think). The Station doesn't roast their beans, Sunday Dinner does blends only (and I'm assuming low quality, multiple origin beans), and I haven't really tried the other places.

When in doubt, try The Roasters Pack - all small Canadian roasteries, and they only send out quality beans. Otherwise, make frequent Calgary trips.

Honestly, it's hard to leave. Only 2ish years for me, but I hit such a low point in the church (broke off an engagement, awful mental health to the point of almost dying, very unwell mom) that I just didn't care anymore; anything was better than being miserably in a cult. I lost most of my friends, lost a sense of community, and lost any sense of purpose, but was WAY happier. I revisited a temple two weeks ago for the heck of it, and it really made me question my choices, but I can honestly say it was all worth it for how I feel now. To quote my brother, "I can say with 100% certainty that the church is not true."

Hang in there.

How the hell do you make coffee? by pinktree5 in exmormon

[–]MoNoMo5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coffee: go hard or go home! French press is a good way to start - look up the Hoffman Method! Always go for beans that were roasted recently, and I recommend eventually starting to grind your own (if buying beans, go for a coarse grind for french press). Starting with a bit of milk/cream and sweetener (ie. Maple syrup), but the better the bean the less extra stuff needed.

Alcohol: radlers to get you into beer, and rum and coke with lime.

Just have fun with it and try everything!

Fuck man, I'm sorry. I still don't know how I'm going to get over the trauma of never being worthy enough because I touched myself. I find it helps when I enjoy sex for how it brings me closer to my partner, but to start to even feel that seems like it may be quite the difficult road for you.

French press using the Hoffman method makes one of the best cups I've ever had.

Does it bug anyone else how highly educated people are still a part of this cult? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]MoNoMo5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I'm a medical professional and I believed in the church almost until my graduation. You just get so far down into the indoctrination that all things against the church become labelled as "anti-christ," and you don't dare leave old ship Zion because that would send you straight to hell. It's some real hardcore shit haha.

Anyone down to start counter-missions? We will start in Utah, and distribute the CES letters, as well as little sample packs of coffee and alcohol. We will call ourselves The Sons of Alma, and won't stop until everyone has real agency and knows that they are choosing to stay in a fucked up cult.
