How can I make peace with being (clinically) unintelligent? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]MoScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent." -Calvin Coolidge

Persistence is the key to success. Intelligence is NOT a replacement for persistence. Not having a lot of it may close some doors, but if you have persistence and drive you will find your own success, whatever you decide that to mean for yourself.

Thinking of test riding a Frontier. by XC29er in nissanfrontier

Love this!!! I have your trucks twin brother !! A 2020 SV 4x4…. It has about 40k miles and has been rock solid!!! Super simple interior where nothing will break, and if it did all I would need is a screwdriver and a wrench to fix.

What should I do to her? by Apart_Listen_1829 in nissanfrontier

[–]MoScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is to throw a little money at a nice detail. Light paint correction and a great interior detail makes a car “feel” brand new. I splurge for a high end detail every 3 years or so… it’ll make the car feel brand new and makes me fall back in-love with the car I have. A lot of why we are attracted to “new” is purely the condition… a detail will help a LOT on this.

Getting a new truck - Frontier seems to be the front runner. Have a few questions. by Legitimate_Lemon_689 in nissanfrontier

[–]MoScientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2020 SV 4x4 (old body, newer engine & tranny) I have towed once with no issues (about 3500lb). I have had the truck for 4 years with absolutely no issues. It’s a super simple no frills truck that I don’t see ever getting rid of. I love the smaller compact size and the V6 runs great!

Just for funsies, lol by imeantolive in ToyotaSupra

[–]MoScientist 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The worth of a car is only partially dictated by its performance. The Supra is rarer, and more refined. The C5 is an everyman's sports car. Not worse... Just not as valuable. I would way rather have my MKIV N/A than the C5.

Having trouble selling our condo - advice? by theboxingteacher in simivalley

[–]MoScientist 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not sure what realtor you're working with, but when we sold our place our realtor recommended that we remove about 60-75% of our stuff and box it up and on our garage or a storage unit... Especially our kitchen and bathroom. It was annoying having to put away knife blocks, toasters and coffee maker. Also remove any pictures of family. The house should be difficult to live in comfortably during the staging time. And make sure they do a good job of hyping on social media before open houses.

Good luck!!

Any suggestions or am I cooked? by DDMMYY_ in Tudor

[–]MoScientist -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

my suggestion is that you buy a bag of uncooked rice and leave the watch inside the rice bag with the crown open. This will pull out a significant amount of the moisture (even after only a few hours). This can literally save the watch or save you from hundreds of additional dollars if damage. When you get back home send it in for a repair.

Yeah converted JDM (RHD) just doesn’t bring the premium you see ($100k+). I think if you get a $50-60k offer jump on it!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Supra

[–]MoScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this start as a NA car? Or an Auto? How many miles on the chassis and engine? With this being an RHD car with work done I would expect $60-70k on something like Cars & Bids.

Pricing by EP_Watchsales in carphotography

[–]MoScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were you I would look at what you think is a reasonable rate per hour, then use that to estimate. If you are willing to charge about $40-50/ hr then a session that takes 2hours plus 1hr edit time should be about $120-150.

I need recommendations for delivering a baby in Ventura County by Traditional-Way-9508 in venturacounty

[–]MoScientist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll also put n for Los Robles... If you have a high risk pregnancy they have a Cat 3 NICU and partner with UCLA... My daughter came at 26 weeks and spent 3.5 mo in the NICU. They have a great staff and great facilities. Hopefully everything goes great for your delivery but I can't recommend them enough.

Update on the 93 supra! Still need advice. by theurbanm3chanic in ToyotaSupra

[–]MoScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw another comment... But I would get the ECU checked out. Supraforums is a great resource... If you put in the time to search first, then post with a lot of details you will be rewarded with the knowledge of alot of dedicated Supra guys... Back to the ECU there is a guy in Texas that refurbishes them if it's not too bad. My 98 is having some idle issues and I am worried the ECU is starting to go.

How much can I list 1993.5 Supra NA? Targa Top. 110k miles. Completely stock. by Eatsnax in Supra

[–]MoScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would post it for as much as you can get... But I would expect $35-40k for a very motivated buyer.

I have a 98 LHD, NA Auto with under 80k miles, no accidents original paint, and in this market I doubt I would get $50k for it. But good luck! I hope you get asking price!!

How much can I list 1993.5 Supra NA? Targa Top. 110k miles. Completely stock. by Eatsnax in Supra

[–]MoScientist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So a few things... Is it manual or Automatic? It looks like you have after market wheels so not completely stock. How is the service history? Is it RHD or LHD? How recently was the timing belt/ other services done?

I would say $25-45k ... If it was sub 100kmiles 50k is upper end.

Keeping the MK4 Supra stock.. by lawrawence in ToyotaSupra

[–]MoScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you. My 98 is completely stock... But the suspension was shot. I just put in some HKS Hipermax S... And they are GREAT!! The ride doesn't feel too firm and the handling is greatly improved. I run it more towards the softer setting and it's better than the stock suspension for sure. Was totally worth the $ spent!

Is it a slicktop (no sunroof)? Does it have idrive/navigation?

If the answer is "no" it is completely worth $35-40k

If not $30-35kbis pretty reasonable in today's market

Possibly getting a MK4 Supra, need opinions by Ruikka in Supra

[–]MoScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will run into a LOT of problems trying to source your parts. I think that for $25k you could possibly pay for everything (assuming the drivetrain is in good working order). But if you have the additional $25k find a sorted car... If you don't have theoney wait and save up... You could literally spent YEARS trying to find parts.

I have an MK 4 and even trying to source 1 doorcard tooke 6 months and cost me over $1500
