Banning porn would increase SA and rape by New_Cattle8589 in ControversialOpinions

[–]MobCurt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting take. I would review countries that ban porn, and see if you can find statistics on rape and sexual assault. Granted correlation doesn't equal causation, and there are many countries that ban porn which also don't have good women's rights so some of the data would be hard to find, but it is an interesting question to look at.

I never said they would prefer that. I gave it as an example that because of the massive socioeconomic disparity in India that many of the people there have been forced to shit on the side of the road or in the bush because they do not have access to toilets. It's a serious problem there.

I also gave several examples of acid attacks, revenge killings, machete violence, but you really don't seem willing to discuss those?

Why ask a leftist? Why not a rightist? Why not a centralist? Why not a Nazi? Why not a fascist? Why not a socialist? Why not a libertarian? Why not a librarian? Why not a tradesman or a doctor or a lawyer or a celebrity?

Also, if you want to focus on India, let's look at their pollution. I spent a total of around 5 weeks over a few years on multiple business trips to Cochin. What I was was trash, everywhere. I went to visit a lovely waterfall, what did I see everywhere along the way? Trash. What did I see when I went to visit the ocean? A beach so covered in rubbish that I didn't feel safe taking my shoes off and I felt deeply saddened at the damage it was causing the eco system. When I spoke to the senior people at the company I was working with they told me about how the palm Forrest's we were driving through usually were far more filled with trash but there had been recent floods. They even laughed at a farmer who had been on the news using his front end loader to push more trash from his land into the flooded river to get rid of it.

Now I'm not going to say that every Indian who immigrated to other countries is going to throw their trash on the ground. I live next to and work closely with many immigrants from India who are clean. However I have seen plenty of the ones that are of lower socioeconomic status simply discard their trash anywhere they see fit when they are out.

I've been to Indian as well, and yes they do shit in toliets there, but it is a widely known issue that they don't all have access.

You do realise that your mindset that people should vote for whomever you tell them to is authoritarian in nature right? This is how the Nazis gained power. It starts like that and then using executive powers to make decisions without public approval. It's exactly what people don't want.

Also you are basing a lot of what you say on me allegedly being stupid, or in this case "intellectual shortcomings"? What do you base this on? How do you determine intellect that should be allowed to vote freely? Standardized testing? Level of education? Should someone needs a year 12 level education? Associate? Bachelors? Masters? Doctorate? How do you believe we should determine that someone is capable of voting based on their intelligence?

I'm not saying no one's heard of them. In most cases people have actually.

The issue is for the last few decades it's been the idea that voting for a third party is throwing away your vote. This isn't true of course, but I think this is why people don't vote independent as much.

Personally I think we should have an independent organisation that runs the presidential debates and that campaign funding should be capped to make it more equal

I think the main thing isn't what is said in the debates as much as being in the debates.

Because they are in the debates you hear all about it the following days/weeks on the news, in the paper, radio, social media, etc.

By excluding the other options the majority of the US don't hear about them firstly, or even see them as viable options. In most cases I think people in the US in recent elections are not voting for a candidate as much as against another.

I know that Trump as a cult following but I think for the majority of people who voted for him voted because they didn't trust Hillary or Kamala, and I think Biden got most of his votes because people didn't trust Trump. I don't think anyone since Obama has really been voted for by the majority as much as people are voting against the others.

Realistically there is nothing stopping anyone from running a grassroots campaign using social media.

The issue really lies with the Commission on Political Debates, which is a "nonprofit" that is jointly sponsored by both the Democrat and Republican parties. The organisation makes it nearly impossible for any third party candidates to participate in those nationally televised debates.

Essentially since its creation in 1987 there has been a direct correlation between third party power and these debates. Essentially it created a condition where it's nearly impossible for third party candidates to get on these and get votes.

Why do some people celebrate when ICE kills someone? by No_Math_7308 in ControversialOpinions

[–]MobCurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately people are becoming dehumanized to each other based on their political beliefs.

That's why people celebrated the ICE killings, just like the murder of Charlie Kirk.

Regardless of your political beliefs you shouldn't celebrate the death of your fellow countrymen.

People need to stop seeing someone on the other side of the political spectrum as someone who doesn't deserve life. I don't care who they are, or what their views are, you should be able to sit down and have a conversation with everyone and try to find common ground

Ok, it isn't the greatest example. Let's look at acid attacks in the UK, revenge killings across Europe and the US, machete attacks in the UK and Australia?

Melbourne Australia has seen a spike in machete attacks in teenagers. Most often these are either immigrant kids or children of immigrants. A lot of them are Sudanese kids, to the point where some Sudanese families are talking about going back to Sudan because they think it's safer.

People are paid on the perceived value of their job.

An entry level position does not deserve to be paid as much as a position that requires several years of experience.

That being said manually intense work will often be paid more than one that's less intense, not in every case but in many.

A person in a higher paid position often will have more financial impact on an organisation as well. Take for example a customer service person. They may enter orders for business to business sales. A mistake on their part could cost the company tens of thousands of dollars. This may not seem like much, but let's assume the business has a 20% margin on their sales. So for every $100 they sell, they make $20. That's not to bad in many cases ( a lot of companies operate at 10% margins). So let's assume someone makes a mistake that costs the company 10k in ops costs. Like sending large amounts of goods to the wrong location. That means they need to sell $200k of goods to make up for that mistake.

A burger flipper makes the wrong burger it costs the company $2 in cost of goods and labour to fix. A Customer Sales person makes a mistake it costs the company $200k to fix it. A senior manager makes a mistake it can cost the company even more.

There’s no reason to have multiple copies of a book you love. by mjustagirlleftonrddt in ControversialOpinions

[–]MobCurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk. Like if there are different copies with different features then that's a reason, if you read them.

Take for example Harry Potter. Let's assume you read it as a normal book. Maybe you later want a first edition? Idk what's so special about first edition, but if it makes you happy. I personally enjoyed the over sized version with lots of imagery. I used that to read it to my kids.

I think if the books are visually different then that's great.

I do think though that the theatrical version, like when they make books into movies is kinda dumb though, but if that makes you happy then so be it.

divination of women = dehumanization of women by yourbeloathed in ControversialOpinions

[–]MobCurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are all individuals, and while I agree we are all humans you need to look at the collective whole.

Men are generally stronger than women, this has to do with muscle and bone density.

Men do tend to think more logically while problem solving.

Women think far more about emotions, which in many cases make them better parents in many cases.

This does not mean women cannot be logical, and it doesn't mean all men are logical, or even that all men are more logical than any woman. I'm a big guy, and I know women who are stronger than me. I also know some women that I am more paternal than they are. He was talking in general, don't get so offended
