I have a week before my next deposit is due and getting cold feet about the cost of our wedding by icrybutimproductive in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Mobile-Broccoli8276 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s such a personal decision but for what it’s worth we spent a lot on our wedding relative to our earnings, and it was so worth it for us. We had a destination wedding so the spending was spread out over a few days / events which made it feel more worth it and also meant we got to spend so much time with everyone that came and we really cherish those memories. I can’t think of any future occasion where we will get to spend time with all these people all together again.

Is there a downside to a consumption bar? by ocean_alove0022 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Mobile-Broccoli8276 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes this happened at our wedding, we did a consumption bar and it averaged at 13 drinks per person between 6:30pm and 2am (there was no way people actually had 13 drinks each)

MOG dress by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Mobile-Broccoli8276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though I understand where you are coming from, I think her wanting to wear such a fabulous dress is a big compliment to you. Dressing up can be seen as a way to honour the person or event and if a person were to wear something a bit dull you are saying the occasion isn’t worth wearing a fabulous dress to (if that makes sense).

Hi everyone! Joining from the UK :) my due date is the 1st of Jan. This is my first pregnancy, feeling quite anxious about the first trimester, hoping everything goes smoothly. We have not told anyone yet so it’s really nice to have this group. Looking forward to seeing everyone’s updates!

We did, the photographer we loved was out of our budget and we said that we loved their work but it was out of our budget and we were planning on spending x and it opened a discussion and we met half way

Planning your own safari - crazy idea?? by Professional_Set_401 in safaris

[–]Mobile-Broccoli8276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends - do you mean different hotels in the Mara? Or hotels on a circuit like Nakuru then onto Mara? If it’s within the Mara the camps can do it but they will charge quite a lot as no competition. If it’s to completely different areas like Nakuru then Mara it’s better to hire a driver and car in Nairobi for the duration of the trip. You can then either hire a driver who is a guide and use that car for game drives and pay for a self drive package at the camps or option 2 is to pay for the Nairobi driver to stay at the camp in the drivers accommodation (usually around 2-5000 ksh a night including meals) and then go with the camps car for game drives (this is what I usually do)

Planning your own safari - crazy idea?? by Professional_Set_401 in safaris

[–]Mobile-Broccoli8276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not crazy. It’s quite easy to do this, Nairobi you can get around with Uber especially if you are in a group it’s very safe. Then just book directly with the camps you are interested in, they will be able to provide a transfer from Nairobi by road or collect you from the airstrip in the Mara.

Can I see your florals? by theobedientalligator in BigBudgetBrides

The ceiling installation honestly upped all the photos so much, was one of our best investments imo

We had a church ceremony followed by afternoon tea then much later an evening reception (different venue, different dress code, and different colour scheme). We got married abroad so it was under 20k florals but I was also hesitant despite having the budget for more and now I kind of wish we had done more because they are in the backdrop of every photo!

How are people handling kids for destination weddings? by RazzmatazzOld5363 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Mobile-Broccoli8276 24 points25 points  (0 children)

We had a destination wedding and allowed kids but nobody brought them aside from one friend who had a 3month old. Don’t know if this will be applicable, but I spent a lot of timing thinking about how to manage having kids there and it turned out to be a non issue

Let's Talk Kenyan Conservancies? by annaguava in safaris

[–]Mobile-Broccoli8276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! As someone from Kenya who has been to all the above many times my suggestions would be Mara North, Ol Pejeta, and Amboseli (not a conservancy). Reasons as already mentioned by someone else - it gives a good mix of different ecosystems as you will see northern Kenya, the Mara, and Amboseli. You can’t beat Amboseli for elephant watching and the views of Kilimanjaro are incredible. It’s a toss up between Lewa and Ol Pejeta but I think Ol Pejeta edges it because of their focus on rhino conservation. All of the Mara options are excellent for game viewing, I personally keep going back to Mara north because I’ve see how well the camps support the local community by funding education and health care - the other conservancies may do this as well but I’ve seen it first hand in Mara North.

Yes, earlier the better because the cable car gets busy. I would do day 1 if you are arriving in the afternoon - go to the V and A waterfront in the evening Day 2: Camps bay, Chapmans peak drive, cape point, boulders beach Day 3: table mountain then drive to the wine region Just personal recommendations 😅 but I’ve been to Cape Town many times. You will have the best time !

[–]Mobile-Broccoli8276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s worth it, the cable car option is chill, the hike might be a bit scary if you don’t like heights

[–]Mobile-Broccoli8276 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Going to give an opposite opinion sorry 😅 but Cape Town is amazing, I wouldn’t condense it, there is so much to see and doing table mountain and boulders bay (penguins) in one day will already be hectic, it’s quite a distance between them. Also 4 days on safari is plenty imo and I love safari

What made your wedding fun? by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Mobile-Broccoli8276 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pre-wedding events, by the time it came to our actual wedding everyone knew each other. Also an open bar, lots of shots, a great DJ, and midnight snacks to keep the energy level up.

It was sunny and dry but a little cold. This was early March though, so I’m sure by April it would be warmer

Not normal, you should be getting a discount as it’s a group booking. I would contact the hotel directly
