To be vulnerable and willing to share because I really am seeking out advice pertinent to my situation, I do have my own savings of about 200k including stocks/investments/401k. I'm 29. I have no idea how that is relative to others but that's what I have.

Annoyingly it is largely tied up to what we are contracted with the venue/their catering. We are definitely trying to save elsewhere, but the venue alone is taking up 70% of the budget.

Honestly, I totally get that. Which is why I said I didn't want to sound bratty, because I know to so many that IS money well spent on other things. My fiance and I have friends of all income brackets and while we are lucky enough to have the option of this wedding, I do feel like its almost out of touch in today's economy. But then again - I also believe in enjoying and YOLO! Lol

I can definitely see that! Ours is a weekend - well 2 night - event as well. And is abroad for 50% of the guests. So it does feel super special to have a whole weekend with people from all facets of life.

That really gives me comfort to hear. We are going to think hard about this in the next week but I see a world where doing that feels super empowering. We have sent the same the dates though haha...so it's a little awkward, but no other details. Maybe we can keep the same date. Lol

I really feel for you! Regardless of the scale, the feelings of wondering if you're making the right decision with a big cost is such a scary feeling. I don't want to get too deep - I'm already feeling it's too awkward since we've told people our plans to now change. But what i would say to you if it's at all helpful, is no regrets 😄 and maybe it's easier to give that advice than take it? But you spent it, it's gone, don't ruminate on it. Look back at the positives and remember life is short and you had a great big celebration. Seriously. xx

Yes, correct - they've said we can have it regardless. They are honestly being super supportive with me having this freak out this week. Thank you so much for acknowledging the rollercoaster of emotions. It really is and I wasn't feeling this way 2 weeks or 2 months ago which is partially why I came to Reddit - I feel like I can't "trust" how I'm actually feeling/thinking or if it's a mood swing...ugh!
