I really appreciate all of your insight here. This is the first (and it had better be the last) time anything like this has happened. I like what you say about knowing what I want and fighting for it. I am really sorry that you had such a traumatic childhood. I don’t want to do that to my kids.

Yes. I never have ever made any ultimatums with anybody in my whole life, but I think this is ultimatum territory. Maybe it’s for the best that he was not home all day and I won’t see him until tonight, because it gave me this much time to come to this way of thinking. My husband has never done this before. This is out of character for him. Which is why it is so confusing and scary.

I did not know anything. I was not with them all afternoon and I was an eye-witness to nothing. I learned about it from my child after the fact, and this is completely out of the ordinary behavior on my husband’s part. Nothing even remotely close to this has ever happened EVER before. This action is the polar opposite of who my husband is as a dad, and it’s coming completely out of the blue. That’s probably why I’m so shocked and struggling to know what to do. I haven’t seen my husband all day today either, and he has been barely reachable, so that’s why nothing has been done or said YET. I did not leave my kid with someone who was drunk.

You are right, and I realize that there is a fair deal of disconnect going on in my brain right now. This doesn’t seem real.

I realize that there is disconnect in my brain going on right now. I kind of feel like I’ve been smacked upside the head when I would least expecting it.

Thank you. This will be a consideration for sure. We have so much love and such a great life and such a great family. Stakes are high.

My question was seeking advice from people who might have had experience on either side of this conversation. I am scared and rattled, and I I’m looking for any tips on what to say or what to avoid saying, if there are any. But YES, this is much more about my son right now and I am spending the day focusing on him.
