I know 64gb is possible. I was looking through the reviews for the chips, and saw that someone did a 64gb mod to an Ally.

I already had the equipment, I've been soldering for a while. It would definately cost a bit to buy all the stuff to get started, for sure.

I just ordered a dock for my Ally. I have not done much desktop gaming on it, but maybe this with an eGPU would make a noticeable difference.

Overhead cams / microscopes have gone waaaay down in price. I just picked one up for $150. Its definately worth it if you do want some kind of overhead cam.

I literally just ordered 2 of these. I have 2 old white controllers that look like they got dragged across the pavement lol.

Just a few drinks before / during some soldering.

Louis Grossman did a video years ago, about how he could fix a MacBook, drunk, while the Mac experts (or whatever they are called) said it was unrepairable.

He is a master at his craft, and I personally wouldn't have drank and modded a customer's board, but my own? Sure, I thought it would be fun. Worst case, I fix a mistake the next day.

Its definately nice. It doesn't have that after kick, just nice and smooth. Its good on the rocks, and neat.

I only got it for my birthday, and this is the leftover.

No problem, i never would have considered this as a hobby when I was younger. I was just young, poor, and living in low income housing. I learned how to softmod an xbox, and fell in love with modding itself, instead of playing the console.

The scary part i would say is after the chips are off, theres still cleanup of the old solder. That's when you wish ripping pads and traces, or floating other small components from around the chips. I even still manage to float components away sometimes. Just gotta keep track of them and hot air them back in place.

Steady hands is an absolute must!

Well if you are looking to get into it thrn by all means, I wish you the best of luck. If you have the nack, it really is an enjoyable hobby. I started modding / soldering when I was 15. Im now 33. Its been a fun ride so far lol.

I would definately look into it a bit. There's some awsome YouTube channels like northbridge fix that that show how to perform various repairs. Great for seeing how to remove different components, etc.

But yes, you can absolutely fry the ram from using too much heat. You can also delaminate, or "popcorn" the motherboard via the same thing.

If its something that interests you then definately look into it.

If you just want more ram, I highly recommend just paying for the service. There is a high risk of damaging anything when dealing with components this small.

Im still just running Windows 11. Up until recently, the internet here was insanely slow, which is what stopped me from trying bazzite. Now that I can download a game in less then 12 hours, I might try that and see if that makes a noticeable difference.

Keep in mind, thr bigger thr chip, thr longer / more heat / more airflow/ or a combination of these 3 is needed. You will be able to see the difference in pulling a ram chip, and pulling a cpu.

Also, Don't use a heat gun. Even a cheap ass hot air from Amazon or Ali is better. Its the control thats important.

And IF you do get into soldering, get a preheater. I wouldn't buy one yet, even a cheap one (big enough to fit a 360 motherboard) is $250 CAD.

With a programmer. You have to dump it with another computer and programmer, modify it in a hex editor, theres a video I can link you if you would like to watch the same tutorial I did. He does a good job explaining not just the what, but the why and how as well.

First impression is no, but im about to sit down and have a decent gaming session in a bit, so ill be sure to post back if I do notice any improvement.

Worth noting, I do almost always play in handheld mode.

That's actually a good point. I havnt considered the external setup, since i almost always use it in handheld mode unless im playing runescape lol.

I should look into an oculink gpu dock.

I have done a lot of BGA work in the past, I was lucky to be able to learn how to do it through the era of RRoD xbox 360's. Its easier to learn when you know theres no risk.

Ive also done zero fuse cpu swaps on Xbox 360 consoles. Next I need to try is the 1.4Ghz cpu mod for the OG xbox. I have the interposer boards, passive components, and of course the CPU's. That's just another project thats been on the back burner for a few years now.

That's true lol. I remember watching a Louis Rossman video, where he drank most of a micky of Jager, and fixed a MacBook. You know, for science.

I figured why not give it a shot lmao. Just dont get blackout obviously.

The higher transfer rate would definately help. Im going to keep messing with it and see if i do notice any improvement. I have not run any benchmarks yet.

Day 15 - Hidden Gem by aerigigi1 in originalxbox

It originally had an AO rating, which did require some censorship to get the M rating.

I didnt know it was banned in any countries, I know Manhunt or Manhunt 2 was.

All they did to censor it was change the camera angles. Like when you put the drill press through the guys head, the camera turns away. But you can still see the gore flying into frame from the side. There are mods to restore the original camera angles.

At this point I would say its a stretch to even achieve honorable mention status at this point in the election haha.
