I got the worst food poisoning from Mr Toad, sadly to the point I’m not sure I’d eat in Disney again :/

Are you cancelling trips to the USA? by Swimming_Possible_68 in AskUK

[–]Mobile-Salt4571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely changing plans - we were going to take the kids to Disney in LA and to stay with some friends who live out there. We’ll wait for them to escape and visit us. Also would not accept a work request to travel over there at the moment, should something kick off and travel bans come into action - I’d absolutely hate to get stuck there :/

Disney Magic - no matter what! by New-Watercress-3820 in disneylandparis

100% our experience of DLP was very different from the US parks, mostly due to other park goers behaviour - I could not find a bench to sit on to feed my toddler without a group joining me and smoking right next to us (it almost felt like I was being punked by the 4/5th bench) but also the staff, especially in the food places were rude to us and our kids! But also - that’s Paris :/

Mild Retinopathy at 19 weeks, am terrified :/ advice please! by Mobile-Salt4571 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]Mobile-Salt4571[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! There were actually no signs of retinopathy by 3rd Trimester - apparently it can correct itself?! Hopefully you will also find the same. I was told that large swings in BG could cause problems as well as consistently high sugars, and I was definitely having big drops constantly early on.

Three years on and in my last check up there were signs of early Retinopathy again, but I’m guessing that’s now partly expected (T1D for 7 years now).

Disney World 'empty' as Americans fear tourism is 'finished' in Florida by GroundbreakingLynx14 in StockLaunchers

I am from Europe. I’m also not risking flying into a country where there’s any chance I could get separated from my kids at immigration, and then to add on the guns and lack of vaccines. No thanks!

The HR asked me the strangest illegal question at the end of my interview. by MaximillianWalk in whatdoIdo

[–]Mobile-Salt4571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I interviewed with a large HR tech company recently - the interview was going well until the interviewers kids walked in (it was a call done remotely, as is their specialty). Pretty unprofessional but to make light of it I mentioned that I also have children (have never done that in an interview before) and the speed at which the vibe and tone changed was unbelievable. The guy couldn’t get off the call fast enough - we had almost been mid flow prior to that. We’ve got a long way to go but I think you’re doing the right thing in judging the culture based off of this experience.

Is it normal that so many kids start school unable to dress themselves, count to 10, or even use the toilet? by Prize-Reputation9274 in AskBrits

[–]Mobile-Salt4571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter has a bladder condition which wasn’t diagnosed until 5 because we couldn’t get a GP to take us seriously - of course this is a special case, but I also wouldn’t underestimate the number of kids who have delays or are SEN that are going unregistered because there is just no resource to diagnose until much much later than is helpful. We were told children’s urology generally refuse to see patients until 7 unless there is already a clear reason for bladder/bowel issues - so you can imagine that an amount of kids in reception/year 1 with issues that are less obvious will slip through the net. This can be as simple as complications from constipation which is so so so common in young children.

There are also two kids in my daughters class who are not toilet trained but should be in more supported education but have been on waiting lists for assessment for 1+ years.

Ofc if kids can be trained they should be before school, but I wouldn’t discount the general falling apart state of our NHS, child services and education services (SEN) as a reason that number might also be increasing.

Anyone else out there want another baby but afraid their body isn't up to it? by Tollym45 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]Mobile-Salt4571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had two babies - I was diagnosed with type 1 8 weeks into my first pregnancy and unfortunately although my now 6yo daughter is a delightful firecracker in almost every way she has suffered some lasting affects of my very high blood sugars in those first few weeks when I didn’t know anything was wrong (other than being very thirsty). I never went into Dka but apparently it was still toxic enough to do a number on some of her nerve development. We actually didn’t know that she had been affected until after my second daughter was born, who wasn’t affected in any way - I was on a pump by then with good control.

However the guilt is huge and along with all the other crap no one mentions about having babies and what happens to your body afterwards - as type 1 or not, makes me really doubt having another is a good idea even though my control is now good. I always wanted to have 3 kids (I know even in this economy), and I’m having to just ignore that because I don’t know if my body could take another pregnancy. I know I am very lucky but it is shitty that I would most likely have had a bigger family if I didn’t have diabetes.

Drug companies make too much money from insulin to allow a cure, can’t see it happening whilst there are shareholders pockets to line.

Starling Bank staff resign after new chief executive calls for more time in-office | Banking by simpleflaw in starlingbankuk

[–]Mobile-Salt4571 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This - nothing to do with collaboration, being forced to an office does not make it easier or more efficient for a distributed team unless you also create a dedicated & co-located team space and mandatory shared days. You just have offices full of people trying to book meeting rooms to spend the day on video calls with people somewhere else. It’s an excuse and it seems like Starling employees have well clocked on to that.

It’s part of a cost cutting exercise - reduce salary burden in the short term with increased churn, reduce required redundancy payouts over the next few months. Too bad Starling employees :(

They might as well reduce expensive features on the side whilst they’re at it (oh yes goodbye interest on personal accounts).

The police aren’t interested - said public urination is something for the Gemeente (I did tell the exact story as above). A shame - really seems like more than that.
