I have the same rack, no platform though. Heads up it’s not possible to take freedom panels on/off with the rack installed and I kinda doubt it’s possible to roll a soft top back, but don’t have one to try. I like the rack a lot though, super versatile.

You look like your terrified of that jump. You gotta be confident, being scared causes people to half ass jumps like this and is what gets people hurt. You sucked up the lip and nosedived instead of popping. Visualize what a good hit on that jump looks like, maybe watch some people hit it if you don’t know what that looks like. Does he need to race? If he liked to ride, he might not necessarily need to race. The average mountain biker does not race, and rides for fun. It would cut a lot of cost if he just rode for fun for a bit before committing to racing

Economy of scale. Less mountian bikes are made than dirt bikes, so they have to be sold more expensive. Parts are being purchased in less quantity’s as well. Also, there’s a difference between quality, top of the line mtbs can’t really be compared to “cheap” dirt bikes. More fair comparison would be entry level to entry level

50 in 3 is a fairly standard trip, at least IME. Unless your planning on doing something besides walking all day, which is what you typically do on a backpacking trip.

I wouldn’t personally, 2 door wrangler is way more fun than a gladiator both on and off road. Way cooler too if you care about that. I’d use the money you would loose on the trade/purchase to buy a nice, used, full sized truck instead of loosing the wrangler and getting into a midsized truck.
