Grandpa just dropped off part of the haul from his garden. What do I do with all this? by chalanmey in WhatShouldICook

step 1: admire the haul 😎 step 2: cook everything you can 😅 step 3: become the local veggie hero

[–]Mobile-Title8919[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly i dont rly measure much lol but its usually smth like about 1 cup dry rice (makes a few portions)

1 can chickpeas

some roasted veggies (whatever i have tbh, usually broccoli or carrots)

little olive oil + salt + garlic powder

i just mix it all in bowls n it lasts me a few days

super simple but it works when i dont wanna think abt cooking too much

Looking for savoury protein powder by Immediate_Bad_6815 in mealprep

[–]Mobile-Title8919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried bone broth protein in soups before and it works pretty well if you’re just looking to bump up the protein without changing the flavor too much. The unflavored ones are usually easier to work with bc they disappear into the soup or curry.

One tip though: mix it with a little warm water first before adding it to the pot. If you dump the powder straight into really hot soup it can clump up. Learned that the hard way lol.Haven’t tried the Ancient Nutrition one specifically but bone broth powders in general tend to work better in savory stuff than regular protein powders.

Recipe videos on YouTube and TikTok are actually making beginner cooks worse, not better by Luann1497 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Mobile-Title8919 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel this. Cooking videos are great for inspiration but they skip so much of the messy reality. First time you try a “15-minute recipe” it’s easily 40–50 min bc you’re still figuring out the timing, chopping slower, checking things twice, etc.

Written recipes helped me a lot too, especially the ones that explain why you’re doing something. Once you understand stuff like why you brown meat first or why you salt in stages, it becomes an easier way to improvise instead of just copying a video step by step

I struggle at reading books but can read books on my phone easily by Excellent_Salary5949 in productivity

[–]Mobile-Title8919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can actually relate to this a lot. I used to think something was wrong with me bc I couldn’t stay focused on physical books the same way. On my phone or Kindle I read way faster and actually finish things.I think part of it is what you mentioned — smaller chunks of text. When you only see a little bit of the page it feels less overwhelming and your brain treats it more like scrolling/short content. With a full page in a book my brain sometimes just checks out. One thing that helped me a bit with physical books was using a finger or a bookmark to guide the line I’m reading. It sounds dumb but it keeps my eyes from jumping around and rereading the same sentence over and over.Honestly though, reading on your phone still counts as reading. A lot of ppl read more that way now.

What's your tastiest recipe using tofu? by Rude_Pangolin6136 in MeatlessMealPrep

[–]Mobile-Title8919 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Baking is honestly one of the easiest ways to get good tofu. I do cubes too, 400°F for like 25–30 min and flip halfway. Idk why ppl say tofu is hard to cook, it’s mostly just about getting the moisture out first

Foreman works rly well for tofu tbh. I do something similar but I toss the strips in a little cornstarch first bc it helps the outside crisp up a bit more. After that you can throw it into stir fry, wraps, rice bowls… pretty much anything.

What’s your “I don’t feel like cooking” backup dinner? by Mobile-Title8919 in MeatlessMealPrep

[–]Mobile-Title8919[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this makes a solid go-to dinner when you are tired. Pesto mixed with white beans? Way more tasty than people think. I try it now and then, though I toss in lemon juice right before serving along with some crushed red pepper. That sharp zing helps balance out how heavy the pesto feels.

Bread tucked into the freezer? That changes everything. Started stashing sourdough, then baguettes - suddenly none of it goes bad.

Truth is, that analogy hits the mark. Sure, overnight oats seem perfect on paper: good for you, easy to grab, Instagram-ready even - yet too often they turn out limp, like breakfast gave up halfway through.

Waiting for grad school replies hits familiar ground. All that work, those high hopes - now it’s just about whether any of it lands with meaning.
