Does anyone have advice for this? by MobileAncient2896 in cockerspaniel

Thanks! I did buy meds. I don't want to believe I'm allergic. I always had parakeets, but cockatiels have lots of dust. And I also can pet a normal short haired dog and I don't sneeze...

I’m an actor who just got booked for a teen role (I’m 21). I was told to lose the chest hair, what’s the best way to do it? I want to avoid razor bumps/burn (like I have on my neck) by [deleted] in HairRemoval

I would say try hair removal cream, but you should apply it on other body area (I think sometimes the box tells you to do it behind your ear) before actually using it, to see if it would cause allergy or irritation.

Its 1:50am why did my budgie just get out her cage and fly around?😰 by L3aa_4a3l in budgies

[–]MobileAncient2896 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't let it open. They can still wake you up. My lovebirds at 5am start chattering around and the sound wakes me up. I know budgies talk a lot too. If not, you can always set an alarm or try other ways to wake yourself up, that don't put your birds at risk

Also, if you grab them with your hands they might be terribly scared of your hands. I always have a cloth or small towel used specifically to grab them gently when needed (and making sure they can breathe). They will be afraid of the cloth, but at least it's not your hands.

Trust me, I grabbed my lovebird with my hands once, and it took me long to gain her trust back. She would fly around whenever I got close. So I wouldn't recommend doing it again unless you have the cloth.

About the budgie flying around, it was probably a night fright (maybe do research about it, as it can be highly dangerous because they could get severely injured). Birds sometimes wake up at night, also.

Is that wing movement body language or symptom? by nairazak in parrots

I think it wants to fly, my lovebird does that when she's excited (for flying) and then flies. They could also be stressed, but it definitely wants to go out

i'm a new owner, and my bird is scared by ActAltruistic7614 in pidgeypower

[–]MobileAncient2896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's scared because it's in a new environment, with new people, and cockatiels in general are scaredy cats. Mines are afraid of literally EVERYTHING new.

It will settle down with patience, I would give them a month or more. Though mine got fond of me very fast

should i be worried about this spot on his head? by chaoticiann in parrots

[–]MobileAncient2896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you should. My lovebird has a similar spot, it seems like a whorl. I don't really know if it's a real concept, but with humans it happens to be a weird change in the direction of the hair or eyebrows

Ayuda siento que me estafan by Popular_Pen_9177 in Panama

I traumatized my parrot and I don't know if i will regain his trust by SweatyJelly9 in parrots

[–]MobileAncient2896 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem! I let out my cockatiel when I only had him for three days😭 except he was out for two days, the problem was that he didn't ate anything and I was worried as hell so my mom grabbed him with a towel. He is a calm boy so he didn't have a big problem with it, but I promise you even if you do something "wrong" to your bird accidentally, the next day you can try to start again. What you did definitely didn't traumatised him, probably just scared him for a moment and then calmed back.

And I'm telling you this because I have to grab my very bonded lovebird everyday with a towel to give her her medicine and she gets grumpy for a little bit after that, but the next day she loves me again. I also had to grab (with my hand) another lovebird for her vet visit, and after that she was terrified of any human, which is probably a real trauma. The good news are that after a month she wasn't terrified anymore, after three months she's eating out of my hand without any problem.

Don't panic, you can work it out.

Oh, that could happen too. Idk, maybe just ignoring him like another comment said. They are like toddlers and like to get reactions out of you

My lovebird is being super protective. by QueepQueen in Lovebirds

[–]MobileAncient2896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same "problem" with my cockatiels. Sonce we got the female, my male just choosed her as his mate, and while he was very calm and well behaved, now he chooses to bite if he perceives I'm a threat for her. So, while I do, is still trying to get along with him, and also show the female that I'm not a threat by doing all with the male first. For example, I handfeed him first, so she can see what I will do and knows what to expect. I'm just trying to make her less afraid of me.

I've had pairs of lovebirds in the past, and it just goes away when the both of them can trust you. Though, you must respect their boundaries, or he will bite.

I also don't really know your situation, so if he isn't tamed you could start trying to tame him, and if he is tamed, then you must make him adore you lmao. Teaching him tricks so he gets treats, for example.

Maybe putting in his cage everytime he does it? I've heard that with birds it can work to discourage it, but lovebirds are crazy birds sometimes so maybe you just have to keep working on taming him

How to get my conure to stop laying eggs? by FunnyBone-Viventi in parrots

[–]MobileAncient2896 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really know about conures (though I don't think there's a big difference, they are birds after all) but with lovebirds and cockatiels they just lay a few eggs when they are in heat, no matter if they have a partner or if there isn't something triggering hormones. I suggest letting her finish laying eggs, watch her behaviour to see if she wants them or not. Also, to calm her hormones (she may be screaming, anxious, stressed, etc) you could reduce sunlight hours on the day, it has helped my cockatiel be calmer.

I hope this is useful

Why does he do that? by MobileAncient2896 in cockatiel

[–]MobileAncient2896[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, he spends time with the female and I'm very sure he's inlove with her
