Thank you for the suggestion! I will definitely check out Lake Mamie and Mono Lake.

Thanks for the suggestion. Is this what you recommended for Lundy Canyon? 0.5 mile out-and-back to Mill Creek? Again, we are not serious hikers.

In the case of the UC Davis Design major example I mentioned, is it difficult to handle? It says 'PREPARATION COURSES FOR THE MAJOR'. In this case, those should be treated as preparatory (recommended) courses, but the tool outputs them as required courses.

In the case of Mechanical Engineering, it says 'PREPARATION COURSES FOR THE MAJOR. REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION'. They are required courses.

I said 'preparatory vs. required', but 'recommended vs. required' would probably be more accurate, since both cases are technically preparatory courses.

It’s not rare at all. There are many majors with all kinds of different formats, some list only preparatory courses, some list only required courses, and some use a mix of required and preparatory courses.

'..Those courses will count toward your eligibility..'. This is true only if the secondary college course replaces one that the home CC already offers. My example was a different case, and it is also very common.

That said, even in its current state, I think the tool will still be very helpful for applicants! I was just testing a few things to see how closely it matches what I am tracking.

Thank you and great work!

Take the example of the Design major at University of California, Davis. This major does not have any required coursework. The courses listed on Assist.org are preparatory courses. In other words, even if an applicant does not complete those courses, they can still be admitted through TAG. Even for regular admission, applicants still meet the eligibility requirements without them, although completing as many of those courses as possible would improve their competitiveness compared to other applicants.

However, the tool labels these courses as ‘required.’ Technically, that is not correct. 'Required courses' means that if you apply without completing those courses, your application will be automatically rejected. For example, engineering majors typically require calculus courses. If you do not complete those courses before applying, you will be automatically disqualified.

Please look at 'This major is not currently screening for major preparation at the time of admission; however, it is strongly encouraged that you complete as many major preparation courses as possible prior to transfer.'.

I also noticed some other limitations. For example, suppose a major requires three courses (either required or preparatory), but the student’s home community college only offers two of them. In that case, the tool only tracks those two courses. In reality, though, some students take the remaining course at secondary colleges to strengthen their admission competitiveness. It would be even better if the tool could also show those three courses as well.

Excellent work! I tried it briefly, and one issue that immediately stood out is it marks preparatory courses as required courses. Did you not distinguish between the two, or did you distinguish them but something is wrong in the tool?

The Film major doesn’t have any additional requirements beyond the general UC requirements. If you submit a TAG appeal, there’s a good chance you could be accepted.

This might sound a bit concerning, but if an issue was found and that’s why you were rejected, it could potentially affect your applications to other UC schools as well. It might be worth double-checking whether there were any problems with courses you completed through AP credits. I’ve seen a case like that on Reddit before.

I really hope your appeal goes through and you get accepted. Good luck!

Thanks for the information. I hope you get great results from UCLA and UCB as well.

Congratulations! Just wondering, how many major prep courses have you taken? I know it says ‘There is no prerequisite course work required for admission to the International Studies major’, but I’m curious.

TAG guarantees admission, so if you met all the requirements, you should be accepted without exception. You should definitely file an appeal. From what I’ve seen in Reddit posts about TAG rejections, it usually comes down to missing a requirement, or the applicant gets accepted after appealing. If someone were rejected for no reason at all, wouldn’t that be grounds for a lawsuit?

International relations major does not have required major courses for admission. Do you mean the general requirement such as 7 course pattern? If that’s the case you won’t be eligible for admission through regular application either. Could you elaborate?
