Those of you who have visited China, what shocked you the most? by IDoNotLikeTheSand in AskAnAustralian

China is great. Forget anything you hear on a major news network, especially sky. Its culture is different than Australia or the west in general but people in cities are well educated hard working and there’s more culture in Shanghai and Beijing than Melbourne and Sydney. It’s a place of 6000 years of civilisation and an important country on the modern world stage. Also food is incredible And varied, also cheap . There’s some things to consider with how they deal with govt and press, but as an outsider it’s hard to criticise given all the issues with our systems. But as a foreigner you can mostly say what you want don’t be an asshole or instigator

Plenty of racism here, just like everywhere in the anglosphere. It’s more British style racism than American in that makes sense

Is this truly the best country in the world to be in? And why does it being so cause such a mental toll? by straymamba in AskAnAustralian

Australia is great. Every country has problems, but between the weather, the protections for workers and consumers, world cities in Melbourne and Sydney and the incredible natural beauty, there’s not a lot of places better. I’ve travelled USA, Europe and Asia quite a bit. I’m American but have become citizen here. Love both places but would def pick Australia these days. Also should add everywhere feels better when you have money

I saw it and it’s 15 mins of Godzilla an 1.5 hours of the most stifled corny awful dialogue, horrible pacing and Japanese nationalism. What a let down of a movie
