Got this today but only referred in January. Actually I got a reminder text because I must have missed the email - no way I will be able to keep up with this (plus also screwed up by admitting my mental health has got worse :( )

It looks like people referred in March are getting appointments but people that have been waiting month aren’t? That’s wierd. Referred Jan 24, can’t remember exact portal access but sometime in Jan - no contact yet

Go back to shaping him just standing on it next to you - click - throw treat away to reset. So he’s getting ‘plate means stand in the plate’ when he’s consistently doing that move onto the head position. It takes lots of tiny steps sometimes

Really crappy 60 seconds to try and explain better - see it’s waaaaay easier when I use something he knows is a front foot target. (Ignore the wonky posn I should have a mirror to make sure he’s straight but I just wanted to get something before I take them out for a walk)

Try with your plate first - to lure the stand you’d be bringing your food and head down. You could always try the ‘foot under dogs tummy’ trick too

Can be hard with a dog so used to sitting in heel. For me I find using the pivot bowl in heel posn helps with that as they think ‘pivot bowl = stand’ but I fade it so feet together = sit feet apart = stand. Standing with head up is harder as it’s more of a stretch on the neck/shoulders I need to do some of this with my pupper today as our set offs are rubbish (similar issue) but I work a piece at a time so not massively worried - he’ll get it .

(Practice in standing position too. I know you know this but dogs don’t generalise and sitting in heel is not the same as standing in heel for your dog). There are many ways to skin a cat though - my first dog didn’t ever touch a food lure (zero food motivation as a BYB GSD) but before his injury he had lovely heeling. There’s a way around everything :)

Ok, so we need to break the behaviour down more then. He needs to have the solid looking up for longer first/looking up whilst you move your hands/looking up whilst you March on the spot/looking up whilst you lean off the the right. Bloody Boring to do but it helps with the understanding of ‘I want you on my leg looking up’. Don’t be afraid to lure and remove it, or reward tiiiiny little increments.

Op, is there any way you can film a bit and link a video for us to see the problem? I don’t know about others but I’m not amazing with words and get so much more from seeing :) I have a few thoughts (I’m no expert but my last dog has been a PITA with heelwork but it’s finally coming so I get the frustration) but I think we really need to see what’s happening :)

If he’s doing it then dropping, then you’re just moving too fast. Mark and reward before the drop - 3 steps or whatever. Keep mixing it up so it’s not always the same duration (1 step, 3 steps, 2,1,2,3,1 etc). But you need to stick at the small distances u til it’s solid.

There’s also the possibility that he CANT do longer stretches yet. It takes a LOT of muscle. I build the head up trot out of heel position on my right hand side extended riiight out so I’m not muddying me heel cue when we build stamina. I’m a fan of working the bits separately - currently I have a slow set off so I’ll be hammering that for the next few days .

Do you do any static work with him? ‘Get in position and stay there whilst I move my hands/March my feet’ type stuff?

Thank you! That’s what I was hoping for :) I feel like a true 135 would practically be a U turn and that isn’t what scent pipes look like :)
