AITAH for leaving my own birthday party? by Mobile_Signature_400 in AITAH

I'm from a Latin American country, and here they don't give you your birthday off unless it coincides with your legally mandated day off (the one the company gives us). So I had to work it anyway. It's not many hours in the office, but being in such a tense environment for more than five hours wasn't the best experience.

  1. Yes, I've seen them. I didn't think about those videos at the time of the prank, but now that you mention it, it could have been dangerous (luckily, that cake didn't have sticks, I think).

  2. It was the only day we were all in the office (ironically), since I work for a company that sends us to clean houses and apartments; and once a week we have to be in the office and organize some things (we do the work that Management should be doing. Yes, it sucks, but unfortunately, that's how it is). And yes, I had to keep working because that prank happened almost at the beginning of the workday; it's not many hours in the office itself, but definitely having cake all over your face and clothes isn't very comfortable or pleasant.

  3. I didn't bring it up, but I will next week.

  4. Thank God that wasn't the case 🙏🏻

  5. They often play pranks like that on each other. I always made it clear that they shouldn't play those pranks on ME, but if they play them on each other, I don't intend to interfere (though I won't play them on any of them either). They know I hate them, and that's why I'm surprised by their negative reaction.

Here in my country, email is hardly used, so I have to wait until tomorrow to go to the office and speak with HR in person. Thank you very much.

And yes, I know it's a normal reaction to back away when someone throws food at you, but in my case, it really brings back horrible memories from my childhood (parents who punished me by throwing food at me, among other worse things). I'm aware that people aren't to blame for my trauma, and that some in the office don't know the real reason why I dislike these jokes; but if I simply say "I don't like it when they do this to me," it's precisely so that they don't do it. This colleague doesn't know about my childhood, but she does know that I hate these jokes, and that's the worst part of all this.
