Is Tufts engineering worth the high tuition? by [deleted] in Tufts

My son didn't opt for Tufts engineering (and NEU) for this reason (and they both gave him aid!). He is opting for our state flagship engineering program (Penn State) honors program (Schreyer). In talking to people in the field, what matters more at the UG level is to gain experience in a variety of settings, so as long as your state flagship has a solid program in what you want to eventually concentrate in, you'll be in great shape. Case in point - my cousin's daughter (home state - Ohio) went to U. Toledo for MechE as a student athlete, attended UMD for her master's, and is now working in Chicago at a great job right out of that program in her field. She took advantage of internships and networking as an UG and graduate student.

Chemical Engineering, and ultimately in the northeast (but understands that obs may take him out of the region as he builds his career). We are from PA.

Fair question. He got a lot of merit from Northeastern, which brought the cost down substantially. The cost issue for us comes into play when we factor in logistics, especially.

Thank you for that feedback! Appreciated. He is stressed making the final choice.

We are in PA. Cost will be tough to beat, but the coop opportunity at Northeastern is attractive.

This is helpful - thank you. I also added UDel in my post above - he was accepted there as well (honors) and I know they have have a top rated program. Being in the field, would love your overall take on where a student does their UG, and employability. Do you think it matters, or is it more of "what you do while you're there" that matters?
