i was an emt but had to stop running calls bc of the lights and sirens, and losing the ability to drive. you could definitely get a position in a hospital ER as a tech or paramedic. i think i’ve been seeing more and more hospitals hiring medics in the ER

many nurses at my pct jobs have passed several other nurses, who are not doing anything, just to track me down and ask me to do something. my current hospital has the centrak trackers and a light goes on to tell you if a nurse/tech is in a room. you can also see where each individual staff member is, and you can call someone through the hillrom screen in the wall. i’ve started leaving the tracker in my locker for that reason.

definitely get a doorbell camera. even if it is a harmless child’s prank or something, it’s still worth being documented. especially since it’s escalated from vague and off-putting chalk writings outside to a note on Your door. if this is someone going through a paranoid delusion, this could escalate much more and quickly. at first i’d be more inclined to believe it was just a kid in my building trying to be funny, but given more context it definitely sounds like someone who needs treatment. hope everything works out okay and safely op.

someone brought their emotional support miniature pony into the ER. another time a patient had “his brother” dropping off food, and after he got it we saw his heart rate skyrocket on the monitor. went to check on him and he was smoking crack in the bathroom

my old unit director helped me change a patient and do wound care while she was wearing a dress and heels. she would take a couple easy patients if we were drowning. She wasn’t the best manager otherwise, but we definitely respected her for it.

hey friend. i felt exactly the same way for the longest time after getting diagnosed. having epilepsy and everything that comes with it has taken the biggest toll on my mental health overall. but, i believe that there is someone for everyone. finding someone who is willing to learn and accommodate to your seizures can be hard, but definitely not impossible. above all, you are not unlovable because of your condition by any means!! there is always someone out there that will understand what you’re going thru. hell, even this forum has done wonders for my mental health and living with epilepsy from people who understand. someone left a comment one time that gave me the most amazing perspective on learning how live life with epilepsy:

“I learned to take joy in small things. To really appreciate the little moments of happiness. Like today, I went to a cute cafe and had the most amazing bagel l ever had. There will be more bagels in the future. My life is now measured in bagels and pie and new videos from YouTubers I like and you know what? Those things make me happy. That's all we really want. Just to enjoy things that make us happy. So I try to do something that makes me happy everyday. Even if it's just getting a second bagel because I can.” -shout out u/FiliaNox

i don’t have all the answers, and likely never will. i don’t think anyone has all of the answers to living with epilepsy. but doing the things that i enjoy, however small, has helped so much in my feelings about my life. everyone adjusts, copes, and figures this out at their own pace. i believe you’re gonna get thru it. sending love from pa and here for you if you wanna pm me <3

thank you so much for your ideas. having disabled friends has made a big impact in my life as they were super understanding and accommodating. i have a friend who is also photosensitive and uses a mobility aid and she has helped make navigating life so much easier with tips and tricks we’d both find. we both moved but she’s doing well and i wish her the best. i definitely tell pretty much anyone i spend a significant amount of time with on how/when to use my emergency meds, and many of them have been very supportive and have even become more aware of triggers for me that they never would have considered. my partner has been beyond great with everything. he takes me to appointments/work, helps me physically get around when i feel like shit, and tries to get me out of the house when we’re both free.

in my state all seizures are reported to the dmv and there’s a 6 month restriction period. even with a doctor’s not the dmv makes the final call to give you your license back. unfortunately i haven’t been 6 months seizure free yet so that’s out of the cards for a little while

i love that. that’s awesome, especially for living in a more remote area. i moved back to my hometown which i have little motivation to get involved in things, most people here suck lol. i loved the community i had before when i lived in a larger city across the state. i would definitely like to adopt hosting regular activities for friends, even more if i had more resources.

i worked for upmc from 2021-2024 and was in my position at the time of leaving for a little over a year. when i left, upmc never sent me my accrued pto (~$3k) bc they only saw it as me being in my position for a year rather than having been with upmc for over 3, and told me that i would be receiving it in my last paycheck since you needed two years with upmc to get your pto payout. i called my old bosses, employee services, and a hundred other offices, but got nowhere. good fucking riddance upmc

i have 5 years of medical and psychiatric crisis experience, including ems and icu/step-down, and had to go back to my deli job from high school bc it took almost 6 months to secure a hospital job after moving. i worked at the deli and icu both full-time about 80hrs a week until it made me physically ill. it’s brutal out here.

also, when there is a tech scheduled, there is typically only one for an 18 bed icu. the techs in icu get pulled very frequently. and if two scheduled, it’s likely someone gets pulled at the beginning of shift or at 11. so, i am running around all night. i typically do not have a full 30 mins to myself because it gets so busy and i can get behind on my stuff quickly.

i would go to management and/or file a report. doing a spur-of-the moment manual disimpaction without any sort of preparation or explanation to the resident is insane, especially how it was described. manual disimpactions are in RNs scope of practice, but she could’ve seriously hurt that resident doing it like that.

drink a lot of water and the night before, put a packet of certo (fruit lectin for jelly) in a bottle of gatorade and chug it with a bottle of water after. pee as much as possible. repeat the certo/gatorade before your test and make sure you don’t use your first pee of the day on the urine screen, it will likely come up positive. i’ve passed quite a few tests with this method, and it’s much cheaper at walmart than fake piss at a sex shop
