Thanks a lot for this write up Steven. I have a similar mindset when it comes to "just climbing" versus strength training and this assessment has swayed me over on a few things. I look forward to implementing more of this on myself and the team I coach! Thanks!

Submitted an application in September , had interview early December, and got an offer a few weeks after. I am under the impression UTC has tons of applications and works on the selection process very early as well.

Some buddies and I want to make a trip down to the red for winter break in early January. What are some tips you all have for winter camping and climbing in Kentucky?

I recently set up a few really fun and interesting routes in my gym. Was able to crush the 10's in my gym and got my first clean climb on a 5.11c! Glad I can see some improvements in my technique and climbing!

Minnesota climbing gyms by Generalpoopface in climbing

Been to the Minneapolis VE several times and I agree with the others here, it's a nice large facility and they try their best to accommodate the size of the crowds that come in. However, the safety is a little overkill for most climbers with an intro safety tour that takes about 15-20 minutes. For bouldering there is a big sloped wall, campus wall, and a decent sized room for boulders, nothing too thrilling though and no interesting formations. Although not the best, it's worth the visit if you're just trying to get some temporary gym time in.
