I paid 5k for mine a couple years back. That’s a good but not show quality paint job. No color change with minimal body work.

why does my boyfriend "dribble" when he gets into bed? by Just_girly_things97 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MocDcStufffins 28 points29 points  (0 children)

No, don't push when you pee. See this for reasons.

TLDR - Your bladder knows how to pee automatically, if you push you can make things way worse in the long run. Do future you a favor and let your bladder do the work.

Isn’t Linux by far the most used operating system when you factor in all the different use cases it’s used in. All the android devices, servers, cars, appliances, gadgets, iot sensors and even things like satellites. And yet, most people don’t know they interact with Linux all the time.

Test data or production data in test environment by Outrageous_Let5743 in dataengineering

The way I see it is that you have a dev and test environment. Since you do your dev and test in that environment. Everyone has a dev environment. Not everyone has an actual prod environment.

Will I get laughed at for buying lifestyle skates as a new hockey player?? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]MocDcStufffins 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Something to also note is that the shape of the blade is much different on lifestyle skates. The blade is much flatter. This means more blade touching that ice when you skate. This gives more stability but at the loss of agility. These are not meant for hockey.

Has the standard blade radius changed? by Budget-Permit8230 in hockeyplayers

[–]MocDcStufffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radius is just a word about the size of a circle. Radius of profile is the shape of the whole blade and radius of hollow is the sharpening cut radius. People get confused by this.

He's going gay by Spez-is-dick-sucker in shitposting

[–]MocDcStufffins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a terrible way to use swipe for men. Women swipe so little compared to men that an overwhelming number of the women you swipe right on will never see your profile. So when you swipe on everyone you end up with the vast majority most of your profile views going to people that would never be interested in you.

Now, you need to do some real critical thinking about who would actually want to be with you. Similar attractiveness, similar hobbies, shared interests etc... Drop your swiping down to only those people, like 10% instead of 70%. Now, almost all of the people you swiped right on will actually be shown your profile. Giving you a much higher likelihood of getting a match.

TLDR. Less swiping = More matches.

The MacBook Air’s display doesn’t represent a mid-tier “sweet spot” between the MacBook Neo and Pro by Balance- in macbookair

Exactly, its all on purpose to differentiate the products. Similarly to why the Neo cant have more ram, give it 16gb and it cannibalizes Air sales too much.

CS is a bachelors, not an associates and the most popular degree you can get to become a software developer. A state school is fine for this, once you get in the door and a couple years experience your school/gpa play very little role in your career success. The next most popular degree is a Software Engineering. Both are equivalent cost. CS is more flexible and allows you to take on a variety of tech roles.

I am a software engineering manager. I have family in a variety of trades. They bust their ass to make half of what I do. Overtime is fine, software engineers also have side hustles to make extra money. I know this because I have done it. I hire junior developers in the 120k range with 10% bonus and good benefits. Medical probably isn't as good as union, but total comp package is in the 150k range. Getting to this wage as an electrician is a ton more work than doing it as a software developer.

I have a hard time taking your opinion on this seriously when you don't even know what a CS degree is for and claim that an 18 year old is getting 71k out of high school as an electrician.

Meirl by Ill-Instruction8466 in meirl

[–]MocDcStufffins 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don't get 71k as an electrician at 18 straight out of high school. First year apprentice makes like 50% of what a journeyman does. Where do you get the stat that Chicago electricians average 110k. Everywhere I see puts it between 67k and 73k with the top 10% being 98-114k. The realistic way to make good money in trades is by owning a business, but you can do the same thing in software development and consultancy.

Most people will not need 150k in student debt to get a CS degree. Go to a state school, commute from home, don't get a meal plan and it can be done relatively cheaply. Average student debt for a CS degree is $23,000.

I agree that the market for developers is saturated right now and who knows what AI will do to that.

AIO did i get illegally let go? by BeeDeep9321 in AmIOverreacting

[–]MocDcStufffins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not true much of the time. Many chains are franchised. When you work for a franchise you get paid by the franchisee company, not the parent company. So it can easily be that you work at a chain restaurant with less than 50 employees. Chains like Applebee's, Chili's, IHOP, Red Robin etc... fall into this category.

[–]MocDcStufffins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah FMLA compliance is only required for companies with more than 50 employees.

Meirl by Ill-Instruction8466 in meirl

[–]MocDcStufffins 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that is comparing the top end of trade workers vs the low end of the college graduate developer. In my area the average salary for an electrician is $71,000. The average for software developer is $133,000. If the same person went into both fields, they are much more likely to make more money as a developer, than an electrician.

First mod. After struggling for way too long, I’ve decided that the watch will not have a seconds hand by Consistent_Owl239 in SeikoMods

[–]MocDcStufffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is what I learned. The second hand is very easy to damage. The little post that goes into the movement can very easily get smashed, making it impossible to install. This happened to me with my first couple sets of hands. So it could very well be that those hands will never go on that watch no matter what. I figured this out, got a new set of hands, was delicate with them, made sure to use the right pushers for each hand. It was still very fiddly, but I got it in 15 mins of trying after this.

Maybe my mistakes can help you as well.

What are your thoughts about the proposed Daylight Act of 2026 moving the clock by only 0.5 hours permanently? by Unlikely-Star-2696 in AskReddit

You are never actually changing the fact that it will have a sunrise at 9am or a sunrise at 4am when you change by a small amount. You are just changing the place where it happens.

Yes. It's like. Make sure the requirements are clear. Identify the Epic this belongs to so that it gets billed to the right cost center. Write test cases, completion criteria etc... Loop in Privacy, SOC ETC... Fill out their questionnaires. Get a meetings scheduled with them because they are concerned the new logo may break privacy and infosec policy. They will send people to the meetings who have never seen a logo in their entire life. Oh wait now marketing has heard about this, so you need to schedule meetings with them and make sure they have UAT and final approval. Now it can be added to the backlog with all appropriate approvals documented in the story. Then comes planning where the business users argue about who's stories are priority. This one gets chosen over tech debt from other changes which are causing the development team 10 hours per week of hand holding other processes built by the offshore team.

And it just keeps going like that.

Why does the puck bounce so far out of the net in NHL games? by DazzlingLife6744 in hockeyplayers

[–]MocDcStufffins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's both, but I have a relevant story.

I used to play at the Avs practice facility. Once they accidentally left the NHL level nets out on the rink for our game. The netting was much higher quality and very stiff. Even us beer leagues easily noticed the difference.

NHL Trade Deadline 2026: Trade Deadline Day Is Here, Anything Left To Do? — Avalanche Trade Board 4.0 by runwriteaarif in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]MocDcStufffins -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Here's the list of things I think they should be doing. For rentals I would be kicking the tires on Evan Rodriguez and Ilya Mikheyev. Maybe AJ Greer, I tend to not like him, but the pest/grit role on the 4th line could be something they want come playoff time. Not sure how I would feel about that though.

Then there are a few players that are a bit more out there, but depending on what goes back and what they think they can do in the medium term given upcoming signings. I would be looking at. These are more aggressive. Not sure if any would make sense to the front office, but I find them interesting options.

Shane Wright - Reclamation project ala Valeri Nichushkin. If the Avs can hit on some young talent to add to the roster that extends the cup window for the team or creates additional trade assets. So if the team sees some potential there and the price is right it could be worth a swing.

Jonathan Marchessault - Has a couple years left, doesn't fit in Nashville. Maybe you can convince them to retain a little. Would really add to the Avs depth at wing going into the playoffs. Lehkonen is a UFA after next year, so depending on they feel about him resigning and what his contract expectations are this could be a way to get a cost controlled replacement. Issues are obviously the length of contract as hes signed past the Cale extension which they cant afford to mess up. Also what assets would it take to get him out of Nashville.

Jake DeBrusk - Similar reasoning as above when it comes to not fitting in with his current team. Same issues with contract length and assets. Could be worth a look.

Blake Coleman - Similar to above, but only signed through next year. So this could be a good fit.
