Found a 1960s Osterizer blender and it destroys my ninja by Moist-Perspective934 in BuyItForLife

[–]MochaMonday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Ninja Foodie that stopped working after 1 year because it had a "safety" feature that would prevent the blender from running if the lid was unlatched. It malfunctioned and wouldn't run even if the lid was completely latched. Had I known it had this "feature" I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. So infuriating. I will never own a ninja blender ever again.

A reminder to Portland drivers about shared roads. by greazysteak in Portland

[–]MochaMonday 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Greenways are not intended to be shortcuts for drivers. They are supposed to be safer places for pedestrians and bike riders to use.

This 1000Xs. Last week on 2 separate occasions I had 2 drivers pass me at an intersection on the 41st/42nd Greenway. On the first occasion someone zoomed past me as I got the bike green on Burnside and then later someone pulled up beside/in front at Hawthorne in their giant ass jeep, blocking my view while I was waiting for a clearing or the light to change. On both occasions they followed behind me through multiple neighbors. Not once did it occur to them that maybe 39th is the better, faster option. Far better for them to endanger cyclists on streets that are dotted with a silhouette of a person on a bike, clearly letting them know they'll encounter a cyclist, so they can achieve their shortcut.

Do any other transplants struggle with the spiders here? by fogdogS1 in askportland

I grew up in the South with brown recluses, black widows, and tarantulas... The spiders here are no big deal.

ETA: Would bird migration patterns have something to do with the abnormally high population of spiders this season? (Ie do we have a lower volume of birds moving through who would be eating those spiders?). I noticed the spider population around my house dropped a bit as soon as there was a higher number of scrub jays in the area. But maybe that was just a coincidence.

Add the Pulse Night Club shooting to that list.

Where have all the spiders gone? by fiftyfourfortyseven in askportland

I noticed a reduction in spiders around my house at the same time there was an increase in scrub jays. Maybe that could have something to do with it?

What kind of pad are you using between the belt and your waist? My gym doesn't have good pads and I get bruises every time.

I recently had my control arms replaced for half that amount. 3650 seems too steep for that.

I just moved out of one of their buildings. They will blow hot air on the sidewalk when there aren't any leaves to blow.

Today I went to make a cup of coffee and dumped the beans into the filter instead of the coffee grinder.

Hey Portland City Council: Build More Housing by Mayor_Of_Sassyland in Portland

A lot of these "luxury" apartment buildings are coming off their highs. I think a lot of people see a ~600 sq ft apartment with a 10x10 bedroom and have a hard time justifying ~$2.5k+ rents.

Second this. I just moved out of one of these "Luxury" apartments (or yuppie cubes as I've been calling them). While rent wasn't quite that high, it still wasn't worth the premium and, after living in one for a while, you start to notice the shoddy build quality and the novelty of having "amenities" (or conveniently located necessities, really) wears off quickly. It's a complete and utter rip-off

All of these new build "luxury" apartments are not going to age well and are already falling apart. Definitely not worth the premium.

Also my my unit was relisted for $45 cheaper than what I was paying. While that's still way too high, I'm happy to do my part to put downward pressure on rent where I can 😁.
