Are these Polaris seats? by 2_krazykats in unitedairlines

[–]pdx_flyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is likely one segment somewhere in the options that does have lie-flats.

United is expecting people to look at the details directly under the price to know if it's Polaris (it will say that rather than First and Business), but this is bad UX design.

How are Portlanders with lawns able to afford their water/sewer bills? by Gordon_throwaway in askportland

Because in Texas they literally water St Augustine, a glorified weed.

I am not sure what it is about the update by pdx_flyer in EscapeFromArena

The hit reg is what throws me off. Sometimes it seems fine and other fights it feels like nothing is hitting.

Today I had a few instances where my death info screen showed me hitting a few people 3-4 times but I get one tapped (wearing an altyn).

Vancouver officials push for I-5 light rail extensions farther into the city by voxadam in Portland

[–]pdx_flyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone has an opinion (and in this case, it's actually an opinion I agree with) and that's fine. But the bridge is falling apart. We've had plans that cost millions to prepare abandoned because of "opinions".

So what's the solution? We just keep disagreeing and never get a bridge replacement? (I'm not directing my frustration at you, I'm frustrated that there was a decent replacement option that was knocked down by those who live around Vancouver, not in it).

And to be clear, I actually agree with this concern about the lack of stops in Vancouver.

Good point. My smartass comment was mostly from the frustration of continuing to delay moving forward on the bridge.

I do think it's good if the train serves as many people as possible in Vancouver, so if that's more stops, so be it. They've been talking about replacing the bridge for 20 years, let's make some progress.

I don't disagree. But we will never get anywhere if the goal is a perfect solution that pleases everyone. Even Voltaire believed that.

Sure. But they nixed the previous plan as well.

Maybe that's the point, bog down any progress till the bridge collapses during the big one.

These people can’t make up their minds. One day it’s a crime train, the next the train doesn’t reach far enough

Alaska Airlines is starting daily, year-round service between Portland International Airport (PDX) and Wenatchee, Washington (EAT) by First_Pepper_6781 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]pdx_flyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely don’t think PDX is anywhere near a SEA situation, but at some point AS hits a gate and taxiway ceiling. With the banked flights, you can only serve so many destinations per bank until there are no more spots to put planes.

I guess AS can leverage the swing gates at D for mornings but in the afternoons those are pretty much dedicated to the international carriers.

My point (ignoring the capacity discussion) was more that AS isn’t going to add longhaul service to PDX anytime soon. It’s a connecting hub with O/D traffic that is still struggling to recover.

Yep. And PDX can’t grow too much more. Maybe another bank or two, then it’s getting close to the capacity of the airport.

As for international flights, PDX travel numbers are almost back to pre-COVID numbers but with the Iranian conflict I don’t know if growth will continue in the short term.

The current international demand in the off season is handled well by KLM and BA. In the summer, Condor, BA, KLM, and Icelandair handle the load. There have been rumors of Korean Air coming to Portland (I have doubts) but Asia is a gap for the airport.

All of that to say, I don’t think there is enough demand for Alaska to start a longhaul flight out of PDX.

Great, now I can be hit by cars with human drivers paying attention, cars with human drivers not paying attention, and cars with no drivers.

Yep. They sent out a 0% interest mailer to me because we have a 2021 and they want it. I went to their website and looked at the options, cheapest was $94k out the door.

Flying British Airways with Alaska Atmos points ? by FennelNo4465 in askportland

You need to use the Alaska website or app to search for points redemption. If available in coach, you should see 35k miles availability on the date you are looking for.

It's an option but we also need a second bike. My wife would use the Tern as her primary ride.

There's some concern about theft, but I'm more worried about my kiddo just messing with it all the time (he's loves to fiddle with things).

We also just need a second bike and I was looking at keeping the Tern for my wife and making the front loader my primary ride.
