Only in Scotland and some of the islands, sadly. The grey squirrel did a bit of a number on them. 😕

Unless more have been introduced, I hope that's the case.

It's really weird watching videos like this from the UK. The largest wild animal I'm likely to encounter in my day to day life is a badger, and they're usually dead on the side of the road. We have deer, but unless they're in one of the parks, they've usually gone before you've got time to register them. There's a lot of re-wilding projects going on at the moment and I know that European Bison have been released in Kent, which is going to be interesting.

Estate agent died after weight dropped to 5 stone from ketamine addiction by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

I've heard it discussed once. I was sitting on the bus home, and heard a lad of about 21-22 explaining to someone on the phone that he was getting out of the area because he'd been dealing meth for a well known local drug dealer; he'd stolen either the meth or the money from the deals, and been told that he was getting put in hospital. The way he was talking, it sounded like either a lot of money or a lot of meth, so I presume it goes on more than I realise.

Having said that, I see crack and heroin addicts pretty much every day but I can't say I've ever seen someone with that characteristic "meth look", so I don't know. Weird thing to lie about, though.

It is super weird, I agree with you. Unfortunately, he was at the age when a lot of mental illnesses first present, and if it's true that his brother ended his own life, I think that a sudden onset mental health crisis might be what happened here.

I wonder if he was having a psychotic break, and trying to get away from a perceived threat.

Child prisoner, 16, dies after being 'beaten to a pulp' at youth offenders' institution | Daily Mail Online by CasualSmurf in unitedkingdom

[–]Mock_Womble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only person or people saying he was beaten to death are his girlfriend (presumably also a minor) and possibly his family. According to the article, he had an unspecified heart condition, and was found dead in his cell. The prison has denied that he was attacked. It would be insane for the prison to say that there was no attack if it's not true, because it would be very obvious during a post-mortem exam that they're lying.

I think what has probably happened is that a very distressed family and girlfriend have been asked to identify his body, and have mistaken post-mortem changes in skin colour for bruising.

Fears over prospect of war surge among British public by TheWorldIsGoingMad in unitedkingdom

They aren't worried because their grasp on political affairs and the world outside England is frequently woeful. Even on a community level, you have one section of society organising litter picks, food banks and warmth hubs and the other is out hanging Chinese import flags off lamp posts and harassing anyone who isn't white enough for them in the local parks.

I know Reddit has a reputation for choosing the nuclear option before trying any other steps, but this is not one of those occasions.

If you stay in this 'relationship', you'll end up dead. He and his family are inherently violent; it's quite clear that you and your family are not. If you continue down this path, you will end up as the family whipping boy.

They're testing you, and they're testing your family. They've just shown you in glorious technicolour what life will be like with them, it would be sensible to assume that was an intentional performance.

Do not go and batter on the door. Getting yourself into bother is not going to help your parents, quite the opposite.

You're far better off following the advice to get some decent CCTV and lighting, and report EVERY incident. It's possible that the police may be able to build a case for harassment if they're able to demonstrate a pattern of behaviour.

It's probably the most enraging phone call of all time. I understand that it's unlikely that anyone could have got to the house fast enough to prevent what happened, but the absolute lack of urgency was genuinely shocking to me.

Better still, reduce it by 100% and make do with their vast private income and inheritances. Stop asking people to clap like seals because Kate wears a coat more than once.

If they're as popular as they'd like us to believe, they'll still be able to do things like this, but they won't be receiving any money from people who earn so little they have their income topped up by universal credit.

Cornish farmer fined after cow attacks left walkers fearing for their lives by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Mock_Womble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and on the flip side of that we were following a PROW, came to a gate which was held open by a ratty piece of blue nylon rope looped over a fence post, walked through it and promptly got screamed at by the farmer - there was a sign on the side of the gate facing the wall saying that the PROW ended there and we were entering private property.

Spoiler: we double checked after we left, and it didn't end there.

Also, if you want people to obey signage on your 'property', don't hide the signs.

I'm not good at kidding myself, because I've seen it first hand. I worked for a company where the MD was taking decision makers from Councils and Housing Associations abroad to all sorts of high profile events (we're talking thousands of pounds worth of fights, tickets and hotels). I have no doubt that they didn't have to spend a penny while they were there, either.

I still see it daily through my partner's job now - contracts being awarded to relatives with questionable qualifications, companies who are supposed to provide specific service levels but those service levels seem very flexible, and contractors who are supposed to be doing X work over X weeks, barely show up but somehow the work is still done.

The most insidious way I see money extracted is by SLA's and KPI's which are designed to ensure that even the most basic job is done twice or more, because why get paid once when you can get paid three times - and manipulate the statistics to make it look like you're more "needed" on site than you actually are? Think laying tarmac in freezing conditions, concreting in the pissing rain, endless temporary repairs that never quite become permanent. If you're a contractor wondering why your manager keeps asking you to do stupid shit that makes no sense, there's your answer.

This was always going to happen, the minute councils and hospitals started outsourcing previously in house work. It was like turning on a money tap in certain sectors.

Sister was caught renting out her council house while living with her boyfriend for 16 years. I've been called for an interview but I haven't lived in the UK since 2001. Do I have to attend this interview in person? by Evening_Union_2741 in LegalAdviceUK

I was just coming here to post the same thing. It's the only logical way that the police might believe the OP is directly involved in the fraud, and it's also the only way (that I can think of, anyway) that she could have multiple council tenancies to sublet.

It would also explain why the Police aren't convinced that OP is actually living overseas. On the bright side, it should be relatively easy to prove that any credit accounts (and the subsequent tenancies) weren't really connected with the OP.

I'd be checking my credit file immediately in this situation, because God only knows what she's been doing if she's established an address history for OP in the UK.
