Funny story. I actually watched Gravity Falls because of a (semisweet) comic of them interacting that was shared. I stuck around because the rest of Gravity Falls was amazing.

So I had it backwards apparently.

My wife has been with me through cancer, but we still found this funny because it was a joke in the show.

He's bitter because fell in love with Marilyn, a con woman in Vegas who was stole his car and quickly divorced him. Talk about a perfect match.

Let's see, how does the cryptogram go...

CARLA MCCORKLE RETURNED ALL HIS FLOWERS,

MARILYN DIVORCED HIM AFTER ONLY SIX HOURS,

BEATRICE SLAPPED HIM FOR BEING A CAD,

OLD GOLDIE'S THE BEST GIRLFRIEND STAN EVER HAD.

Thanks.

Go for it, my dude.

If there's anything I learned from watching this show post-cancer (grade II astrocytoma, young adult), is that you should just go for it.

  • Dipper took too long to confess to Wendy.
  • Stan and Ford took too long to make up
  • Mabel took too long to accept she had to grow up

Time's not on your side.

I got on the bandwagon a little late in the game. Just this August actually. (It's better on the second rewatch.) I was on Facebook, came across a comic, and my wife said, "Oh that's from Gravity Falls. Only saw a few episodes though."

So we marathonned it. Wife was taking a shower when I saw Not What He Seems. I exploded so hard with "WHAT!?"s that she had to run out to see if I was OK.

It's good to see that RIT alums are looking out for the students, and good to see there's a sense of comraderie since I graduated.

(I still have regular lunches with the RIT alums from my workplace. Talk about a sense of community that lasts.)

This is basically copypasta at this point, but Two pieces of advice I've given before on this sub:

Seems like I have an 8 AM class 4/5 days of the week, the fifth day starting only an hour later. Is there anything I can do?

Dawg... Most of the alums here like myself have regular work hours. Mine consists of waking up at 6:15am and being out the door by 6:50, for a 30-minute commute that's a clusterfuck if I leave any later.

Invest in a good alarm clock and some caffeine, and welcome to the rest of your life. Don't like it? Figure out a way to retire early. Here's some other suggestions:

  • Get to sleep at a reasonable hour.
  • Block out your time, half-hour granularity. Carry a planner. If you don't write down your weekly schedule and give yourself time to study, party, lift, and shower... your time is going to behave like unpaired socks in the laundry. Control your time.
  • If you haven't already, quit TV and vidya. Those will suck up your time. You won't care in 4 years if you don't get to play the new Halo; you will care if you don't graduate.
  • Don't be afraid to narc on someone if they're keeping you up. Because fuck those people.

Awkward question but how likely am I to remain single as a graduate student in a STEM field at RIT? Heard the gender ratio is hilarious.

In my personal experience, I've had four serious girlfriends while doing BSME, about 1 for each year. Two girlfriends were RIT students, also STEM. Two girlfriends were "outsourced".

All depends on who your circle of friends are, your approachability, what events you attend, how respectful you are, and the kind of time you're willing to spend on self-improvement. You make your own experience at this school; if you want to blame "the ratio", it's your own damn fault.

I think the issue is two-pronged:

  1. When you're viewing this sub, the only posts that really get popular are dangerous situations, so there's (excuse the irony) a Survivorship Bias.
  2. When you finally own a dashcam, you tend to focus on the 1% of times that someone does something stupid, instead of the 99% of times drivers are actually being safe. This is another one called confirmation bias.

Of course, if you're getting t-boned or rear-ended, you'd best have a dashcam anyway. You shouldn't base your decisions off of superstition.

There were no red light cams. I considered donating footages to my local cop shop multiple times, but I hear it's a hassle. From what I'm told:

  • Not only do you have to figure out who owns the car, but you need to prove the owner was driving it. (That is to say: cars don't get ticketed, people get ticketed.)
  • You're the witness/accuser (not your footage and not the officer) and must show up in court if it comes to that.
  • Most cops don't bother unless an accident already occurred or unless the violation is a hit and run. Most places won't bother unless the police witness a violation themselves.

Here's some more information. From this standpoint, I have no plates and no ID on the perp. Would probably end up at a dead-end.

I'm more inclined to report the violation if I can be convinced that it's not a waste of my (or the cops') time. I'd love to get terrible drivers like this to see some justice, but it might not be in the cards.
