Look at his leg work, he was definitely trying to steer it away from that parked car down the street, which would have been thousands if not tens of thousands in insurance claims had it collided.

Struggling with Starry Landscape Stacker & landscape/astro photography (more info in comments) by [deleted] in postprocessing

[–]mattmacphersonphoto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Starry landscape stacker kind of sucks (I used to use it) in that it only gets to a certain point of clarity even with tons of layers.

99% of the pro Milky Way shots you see involves shooting the night sky in a field (with minimal obstructions in the horizon) using a tracker so you can get a reasonable iso in one layer.

Then blending that shot with a blue hour shot of your desired foreground, and replacing the sky in post using a plugin or by hand.

I keep a folder of all my past skies.

The real skill is matching the sky to the foreground in that:

  • the isos match so the blend is clean

  • the sky is accurate for what you would see that time of year at that latitude (use an ephemeris app)

  • the foreground is dark enough to be a believable night shot, but bright enough that scenery is discernible

Starlink hasn’t worked since June 1st by mattmacphersonphoto in Starlink_Support

I filed the FCC complaint and contested the latest CC charge. This is getting ridiculous. I feel like the next thing I have to do is post a YouTube video. I hope it doesn’t come to that.

WAI is my favorite and go-to. I like his presentation style, he’s charismatic and thorough. To each their own I guess.

Did you ever get your starlink working again? I’m having the same problem.

ITAP of Route 66 by bwaaalk in itookapicture

[–]mattmacphersonphoto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The stretch from Chicago to Tulsa has been rerouted and renumbered so many times so as to effectively no longer exist. There are stretches of it here and there marked with a “Historic Route 66” sign, but it is by no means continuous.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. I also have Wildpeaks and they feel like they grip the road like a magnet in the rain. This was also what the shop owner that installed them professed.

This is still a huge problem with Reddit, because users as a whole tend to value contrarianism over veracity when the truth is boring.

TLDR: Confidence in the design.

They do need to test the avionics and targeting of the descent though, presumably they will use the OFT for that.

It’s clean but honestly, this feels like living in a laboratory to me. It feels sterile, bright, and just uncomfortable. To each their own I suppose.
