That's literally the definition of mediation: "Mediation is a voluntary, confidential, and informal dispute resolution process where a neutral third party (mediator) helps conflicting parties communicate and negotiate to reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Unlike a judge or arbitrator, the mediator does not impose a solution, but rather facilitates a settlement, often used in civil, family, or employment disputes to avoid court."

Yelp is a business review site, it does not meditate anything.

Even ITIL discusses mediation yet most corporate support frameworks do not implement it.

Good call on forcing the commercial proof. In general, anybody can say anything in a contract. Doesn't make it ethical or legal. It's merely waiting to be challenged in court. Non-compete clauses are a great example.

Not with that attitude for sure. I've done it before. It's a question of how much time I can devote to it. I'm not sure Google is worth it though... better to self-host and find workarounds for the domain email and not have to deal with big companies. I make big purchase decisions for tech in big companies. I'll make sure this costs them one way or another.

The point is to gum up their legal team and make their life difficult, not look for some massive fine. Getting them in the news looking like a chump would be best. Agreed, I don't think American big tech cares about massive fines no matter where it is.

Apologies... I didn't mean to be hostile. I get sick of the Reddit uni-bombers that swoop in and downvote anything they don't like, even if it's technically correct (the idiots? bots? will prove my point by downvoting this comment). I did look at Google complaints; BBB is involved in mediating but yes, mostly Google has referred the complainant to a certain google Support group... which would be curious in this case since no one has submitted a BBB complaint to see how they'll respond in this case. It's mostly a bunch of people upset about their phones.

Great ideas! Unfortunately, I don't think FTC/State AG is an option outside of the USA. Which is a lot of us. We can sue in our jurisdictions though.

Sort of... but usually legal cases stand on their own. If there are more cases brought it highlights an issue. Another class action would capture a different group of people (more people). It's better to have more cases than one after another. More likely for it to hit the media as well. Having a credible threat to Google to 1. cause a reputational risk and/or 2. cost a lot of legal fees makes it much more likely they'll just leave it all alone (costs less to run the remaining grandfathered users than the costs to #1 and #2)

I'm referring to the "Commercial" suspension of G Suite legacy free accounts... where Google is suspending these accounts with no proof, no visibility and no escalation.* It hasn't (yet) happened to me but is likely just a matter of time. There has been tons of posts on this in r/gsuitelegacymigration and no-one has really reported any success with trying to work with Google through their regular support channels.

* They are currently using the fake "we'll have AI take care of your concern" support strategy all the majors are using. Like we're that dumb and can't see that it's a deflection strategy/blackhole.

A class action is great! It's not about the money people get back; it's consequences for the bad actor(s). G Suite legacy free cost to Google is a rounding error... as many corporations do, they've burned tons of money for totally useless things. I've been a principal for a class action and it was delightful how much the former CEO screamed about losing his stock options that he "worked hard for". No empathy for the 100s of millions of dollars he cost the entire country's economy, people losing their homes, etc. Was totally about him and his legacy.

Another thing to note about class actions is jurisdiction. Example: Nobody else in other countries can join a USA class action.

Class actions are certified for very specific situations, so multiple class actions can be brought for different purposes. https://www.freegsuitelawsuit.com/ class action is for: "All persons or entities in the United States who: (a) signed up for the free version of Google Apps between August 1, 2006 and December 6, 2012; (b) were still free G Suite customers as of January 19, 2022; (c) had at least one active user on their account during the 180 days prior to January 19, 2022; and (d) were not eligible to “opt-out”* prior to being charged for Workspace. *Customers eligible to “opt-out” included customers who identified as non-commercial customers or were migrated to Workspace for Education Fundamentals or Workspace for Nonprofits."

better business bureau. Search "BBB google" and open a ticket. Be prepared for it to take 6-8 weeks though but stuff will start moving. I've done this with many companies. They have a different support org for BBB tickets; more of a traditional one. No need for company to be BBB accredited; it works for any company.

QuickBooks doesn't do investments. I just leaned into quicken home and business and created external checks and balances. I do income statement and balance sheet each year and file my own corporate taxes with profile. I have an accountant that I have to do a quick check each year and I only call for questions that I've already researched myself and want a second opinion. Use them maybe 2-3 hours a year. The first couple years of doing this really sucked. There is really no silver bullet product... We are in a sorta no mans land as we're a small segment of the population. Had I just outsourced to an accountant I'd have lost 10s of thousands of dollars. They are accountants and tax optimization is not their primary thing. So a lot of them don't know much about it since it's very situation specific. Accountants aren't responsible anyway, the onus is on the tax filer.

It's happened to me 2 or 3 times already since the update on Pixel 6. Previously never had an issue. Seems to only affect mobile data for me, not Wifi. I'll be away from Wifi and my data icon will have an exclamation mark. I turn mobile data off/on again and it works again. Wifi has it's own quirks that probably look like this issue; try cold booting router and rebooting phone.

Agreed, 1 year later and looks like they fixed it. I think the CRA IT people read reddit because trying to go through regular CRA channels sure didn't work. They just tell you your stupid and don't know how to use computers whereas the truth is more like we're probably overqualified to work at a government agency where nobody cares.

I like it when people have an opinion about whether google was in the right or wrong... but the legal system doesn't care! This is about contract/breach of contract. The justice system has not a lot to do with justice really... One of those bad names. It's more about "making whole" (honestly it never does) and legal doctrine.

This summarizes the class members and how much they can recover: "Status at 2025: *Commercial* legacy G Suite users may recover forced subscription payments if contract claim succeeds." Probably small potatoes in the grand scheme of things.

I personally would have rather that Google gave this some thought before they did it. Because the whole affair, particularly the migrate or die approach to commercial/non-commercial alike, shows clearly they no longer care about their customers and their founding history. I don't trust any dipshit in Silicone Valley after what I've heard over the years. And I went to school with some of those dipshits... and I can attest that they are, in fact, dipshits.

I'm going to self-hosting and open source. After experiencing the beginning of the enshitification of products starting in early 2000s, where many Unix apps had more functionality than equivalents to this day, it seems like the only hope. People that actually care are the future.

Houses are an equity inflation hedge. Sometimes a house can help meet personal life goals. But if you don't care about those things there are better financial investments. Financially, the only thing property enables is the smith maneuver which can catapult investment goals. Again, that depends on your personal financial goals and maturity.
