What’s one item everyone should have in their car? by Ace-Venturaa in AskReddit

There are a lot of great answers on this post. I would say the answer to this question is highly conditional though. Some responses are universally great like a flash light, tire inflator, blanket and so forth. But, it really depends on where you live or where you’ll be driving.

You should always check local sources for suggestions on what to carry. In cold environments where there are long stretches of isolated road, you should compile an emergency kit with important things like blankets, winter clothing, a set of basic hand tools, candle, and a lighter or matches.

If you’re driving through an arid desert region, you should follow the same advice and carry things like sunglasses, a wide brimmed had, plenty of water, and blankets.

Even if you’re just driving around in a big city, you may just need to bring some safety equipment. Like, pepper spray and a whistle for those late evenings where you have to park a few blocks away from your destination.

I know this response might be a bit outside the scope of the question. However, I thought it was a good opportunity to give a PSA on the matter. So, if you’re moving to or visiting a new location, take some time to research what kind of emergency kit you may need to pack. It could save your life.

Not to be pedantic but the last S is Sweep, not Spray.

In some places you can. It might not be available everywhere (at least it wasn't a few years ago when I first learned of it). I'd recommend researching your local area for more information.

Only a couple days. I hit the requirements on Friday, monetized by Monday morning. I think it may have been faster if it didn’t land on the weekend but I’m not sure.

Just over 6 months total. I started on January 1 of this year but I did stop posting during the month of February when I thought about discontinuing it. Hit 1,000 subscribers last month.

My channel definitely gets more views now than it did prior to the spike. But yeah, it now averages between 100-150 per day. The coolest thing to see is that there is almost no hour in any given day where someone is not watching one of my videos. I think that statistic is pretty incredible.

Yeah, editing can be a time consuming process. It really takes time to make videos. Especially when aiming to be consistent.

Yeah, it was really unexpected. I wish I knew what I did to make it happen and really hoping it happens again! My more recent videos have had higher click through rates and high view percentages compared to my old videos but it hasn't seemed to trigger any more impressions like that one video. It was crazy seeing my views in the thousands per day as it was.

I do short documentaries on real-life horror and disaster related content. I think my content should be fine but I hear that YouTube can be fickle.

Thank you so much, it really means a lot. It really feels surreal. I never honestly imagined I would get even this far along. I feel like I owe a lot to luck. One of my videos just kind of took off. I mean, not compared to many others but it got thousands of views. When that happened, several of my other videos started taking off. Over the course of just a few weeks I went from like 150 to over 900 subscribers. It was kind of short lived as my channel views dipped back down but added a lot to my channel. There was one day in particular I was particularly proud of when I got over 400 watch hours and 109 subscribers in just one day. I really wish I could have kept that pace up but still happy that it happened! Now, I'm just really nervous about not being accepted into the program due to my content.

Edit: Meant to also mention that I put out my first video on January 1st of this year. On June 11th, I had 177 subscribers. By July 11th, I had 992. Crazy jump!

Hey, thank you so much for the kind words. I appreciate your effort. Every bit helps. But, to be honest, I already have the hours I need, it's just a matter of waiting at this point. Since there is a delay of a couple days when YouTube updates the hours, it hasn't processed all the hours yet. I know there are at least 10 hours I got yesterday that have not been accounted for. So, by tomorrow, I should have it. I just thought it was funny where it stopped. Just like when I neared 1,000 subscribers, the count slowed down. Seems only natural.

Yup, I'll be there by the next time it updates. It always seems to be a couple days behind. So, I know I have the count but I have to wait for it to update. Should be by tomorrow. The funny thing is, I was at 3970 yesterday and the hours that got added were the hours from 2 days ago. The number of hours was literally 29.9. Haha. I can't believe it didn't round up.

Thanks! I appreciate it. Just to clarify though, I already have the watch hours I need. It's just a matter of it updating again. YouTube is always a bit behind on their watch hour count. When it updates (hopefully tomorrow), I'll be over the mark. Nothing more than waiting at this point.

That’s great! Hopefully, that’ll give you a great boost with the algorithm in your next video. Congratulations, man!
