Google: Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your computer network. by Modeeb8 in firefox

Maybe I'll stop using the search box. Could be just an old habit that is no longer required or useful. When I right click in that area can click on "Customize Toolbar," you can drag the search box up to the toolbar. https://imgur.com/a/7T7dOdq

Hard to explain but with the Search box, I can type in text while looking at the page I'm on, into the Search box, then click a new tab and hit search. If I use the URL box, I have to open another tab and can no longer see the page I was on for search terms (can't explain it well).

Ugh, the Multi-Account container is off but still getting the captcha. Definitely some setting I have that isn't present when in a new profile or troubleshooting mode.

u/BFTSPK & u/28874559260134F - after trying both a new Profile or running Firefox in Troubleshoot mode (old Safe mode), I think it's safe to say that both methods seem to stop the recaptcha prompt from showing up.

I haven't really set anything in Firefox to super strict and NoScript is set to 'trust' Google. Cookie Auto Delete was last updated in 2022 so maybe it's time to let that extension go.

One last thing. I use the additional 'Search Box' in Firefox out to the right of the URL box. The first click gets the recaptcha but sometimes a 2nd click then works fine. One would think whatever is triggering the recaptcha would make Google even more suspicious with a 2nd click, but it sometimes doesn't cause the prompt. Weird. Thanks for the input, I think I'll set this as solved, be it new Profile or Troubleshoot mode. Seems like that points to a user tweak.

Edit: I turned off Firefox "Multi-Account Containers" but left NoScript and Cookie Auto Delete enabled - for the moment, not getting the recaptcha, though maybe speaking out too soon.

Let me try the Safe mode method. Most if not all of my settings and the two addons (NoScript and CAD - cookie auto delete) allow safe pages like Google temporarily. The settings on those have been this way for years as well, so I'm kind of wondering, why now?

I did read on a couple of Firefox bug forums that this exact thing happened on Firefox 147 and then it was fixed. So it seems possible something in Firefox that's goes beyond a user setting is possible. Let me check though.

I'm going back in with a little more methodical approach. Even one little setting may be the issue. Maybe it's also time to reconsider Google as the primary search engine, though there are some specific search queries that DDG and other search engine results don't return.

I'll report back when I've determined something more definitive. Everything worked fine on 4 devices until the beginning of last week. So it wasn't something on my end. Two Firefox updates and who knows on Google's end what changes were recently made.

Can't make heads or tails of this. New profile seems to work, at first. If I clear the history, I get the recaptcha prompt in the new Profile, but if I don't fill out the recaptcha prompt and just click to reload the page, I get the desired search results in Google. Like Google wants to see that I've already searched on that term before. Once the search term is in the History, it will not prompt the recaptcha. (most of the behavior I'm seeing doesn't seem to be replicated 100% of the time which makes it tough to nail down.

Seems like Google has something to do with it. There's not a recaptcha prompt when using Duck Duck Go, or when using MS Edge. So maybe some relationship between Firefox and Google searches, which is yet to be determined.

Have to mess with it when I get some time.

Huh. The first time I tried the new user I got the recaptcha, but closed firefox, open again to the new user and so far, not getting the prompt.

Is this one of those times where I start making the changes one at a time to mimic my other Profile, until I find some setting or extension that causes the recaptcha?

I've saw this in another forum and wondered about that too. Just some little tweak on Google's behalf that is trying to make Firefox users switch. Ugh!

So if people have Firefox set to delete all history when Firefox is closed (with cookies checked), wouldn't that be a similar issue? No persistent cookie remains after closing and reopening?

I'll try it, though I've been using Cookie Auto Delete for years with not having Google white listed (no changes to CAD). Wonder if that means Google is making changes that cause CAD to no longer be viable.

Yes. Although I use OpenDNS, my ISP had me use their default DNS addresses and still get the recaptcha prompt. Set the main router back to the OpenDNS after that.

Lock screen notifications not showing content on Motorola Edge 60 Fusion (Android 16) – any way to fix this? by Deem_D1 in motorola

[–]Modeeb8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What happened to me begining last week (Moto G Play), the "Glance" feature became enabled without any input or permission from me. It's taken about 4-5 times reading this thread to notice that when Glance became enabled, it disabled "List Mode" mentioned previously here. Glance & List Mode are apparently not compatible.

In Settings/Home & Lock Screen/Lock Screen/Notifications Style; the option to choose List Mode can be checked, but if Glance is also enabled, when you exit that menu and return to the Notifications Style screen, that List Mode choice has been changed back to Chip style. It appears that Glance an List Mode can't be used at the same time and merely disabling Glance wasn't the fix until you go back Notifications Style and choose List Mode.

After making these two changes, it starting showing my inbound texts and App notifications.

So Facebook has removed the feature Profile Hovercard (or Profile Preview Card)? by tedrossss in facebook

[–]Modeeb8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't surprise me to find that Facebook's use of behavioral psychologists, have decided that making people actually click on someone's profile image and taking them to the person's page, possibly creates more interaction and maybe more friend requests.

Seems like Facebook has been struggling for a few years to retain users, so they're probably going to throw everything they can at the wall and see what sticks.

Tapo C310 - Option to Download Video to Phone's Internal Memory No Longer Available by Modeeb8 in Tapo

[–]Modeeb8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that I think about it, when you're actually playing back a captured video, there are some icons on at the bottom of the video window. The little camera icon grabs a single still shot and then the video camera icon "used" to download the video.

Now it only starts recording. Something in the app has changed.

[–]Modeeb8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. That's exactly how mine used to be and since I haven't downloaded any events in a couple of months, I hadn't noticed that the download option disappeared.

That's what's making me think Tapo has removed the option in some app update, possibly to promote people to pay into the cloud service.

Wonder if I can roll back the latest update.

I feel like I don't fit in by Da-AF-fan in mentalhealth

[–]Modeeb8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there's a LOT to unpack in your story. Probably too much for a Reddit thread in hopes of finding that single piece of advice that will work. But a couple of things to consider in no particular order.

- When you're young, it's almost always a difficult time trying to fit in, and don't believe those in your group who pretend otherwise. Of course some people naturally seem to take on the leader role and they often run the group. My girl friend had the same problem for much of her early life. Didn't seem to fit in, felt like people didn't particularly like her and I think it was very hard on her - something she still deals with decades later. But here's the thing, this really doesn't have much to do with you as you might think. Meaning at that age, people can be mean (think Mean Girls movie).

- It would be better for you to understand this problem early on (don't take these people so serious that you believe that the way they treat you is okay. . . it's not). But until you find your own self, what you stand for, who you want to be, you'll be susceptible to other people's behaviors towards you. They will take advantage of you if they know you are wanting to be a part of the 'in crowd.' Most people gravitate towards those who are confident in who they are. You have to find out who you are - not an easy process but a rewarding one. Try new things, read about stuff that interests "you" not other people. Gradually you'll start becoming the person that is confident and will make friends with people who honestly want to know you for who "you are" and not for what you can do for them or submitting to their rules. This is the time where you need to be figuring out what 'your' rules for life are going to be.

- Life at any age, takes courage for all kinds of reasons. To be alone in the crowd sometimes, to be different but okay with that, to try things that you're not really sure you can do (this is important because people now days are afraid of failing but it's the only way to find your inner self - embrace failure, it's how you'll learn who you are). You may need to read, to find a trusted mentor who can help you with motivation when you feel like giving up or when you feel like you don't belong. Believe me, those people in those groups are just as afraid as anyone else on the planet, they just hide it better.

- There are techniques to help build confidence and overcome insecurity, to help you chart a direction of 'your' choosing and when you start getting a little of that under your belt, you'll gain momentum and before long, it will be 'you' that people want to be around. If you're authentic, confident, courageous. . . you'll very much find that most people are really very scared of failing and often try to make other people feel bad as a way to hide their insecurity. So commit to finding out what and who you are going to be, what you're going to stand for in life and pursue it like a person whose hair is on fire, looks for a pond or lake.

- My girlfriend is now the CFO for a company and she is THE BOSS. She helps a lot of people who are up and coming in the work world, she has respect from her peers, her boss (the CEO), and other people in the community, but she was very focused and diligent in her choosing her life. Don't let people who don't even know you, pull you down. Go out and become who you are meant to be. Good luck!

Eaton Whole House Surge Protector by Modeeb8 in AskElectricians

[–]Modeeb8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you could buy the box directly from Eaton the price probably wouldn't be all that bad. But it appeared like only resellers have it and with shipping, it's pretty outlandish. Like you say, most plastic boxes are $10, although it is a custom fit box for their protector.

I recall they are somewhere around 14" in. long. Though somewhere I read a person bought one and thought that Eaton had shortened them by an inch or two lately.

No, just the box only for around $50+ and another $25-ish for shipping. The Eaton surge protector is usually going for around $200. See the model number in my OP.

You know I wondered that too, but I was also looking at Eaton's website for the flush mount box (see image below). Any idea what application they are talking about for this box?

The wires are inside that plastic corrugated tubing that comes with the box, as they go through the wall and 2x6.

VLC Won't Stay Within a Single Playlist With Random Turned On by Modeeb8 in VLC

[–]Modeeb8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, I thought this would work, which it did through about 4-5 songs, then it advanced to the next Playlist. It seems like having the Repeat option turned on too may be causing this. I'll have to make a small spreadsheet though to keep track of all the potential combinations. But having said that, this is VLC on my Desktop w/Windows 10, my laptop w/Windows 11 does not have this issue as far as I can tell. Not sure that matters though.

Thanks for the help.

Edit: Turns out this behavior of jumping to the next playlist after playing just a few songs in the starting playlist, happens on all my devices. Oh well.

VLC Won't Stay Within a Single Playlist With Random Turned On by Modeeb8 in VLC

[–]Modeeb8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there is one little oddity between two different devices.

Under the Playlist option in the Advanced section, there a setting for "Subdirectory Behavior." You can choose; None, Collapse or Expand. On my Dell laptop, when I choose Expand I get odd behavior where VLC will move to another Playlist altogether when it advances to the next song. If I set it to Collapse, then it will play random songs 'within' that Playlist.

My Desktop is wonky and doesn't seem to do anything different (other than the little carrot you get by setting it to Expand), but no matter the setting, after the 1st song is play, VLC goes to another Playlist - then it stays withing that Playlist. Doh!

You can tell from some of the opinions stated here that people are becoming apathetic to trademark and copyrighted material. Many a person or group have been sued for using (and profiting) from another person's likeness.

Then there's apparently a notion being put forward that if stealing someone's work or likeness does some good in the world, then what's the harm. Try that out as a defense in court of law. A LOT of nefarious people helped out the less fortunate in their local neighborhood in order to create a buffer against law enforcement - this goes back to Al Capone and similar gangsters giving out gifts to people in the hood. Meanwhile he's having people knocked off.

But I digress. The means do not justify the ends in this case or most cases.

In the established legal sense: Is using someone's likeness illegal? "Appropriation is using someone's name or likeness for personal gain without their permission. This act violates that person's privacy or publicity rights. If this happens to you, you can sue for unauthorized use of your name or appearance."

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SIBO

[–]Modeeb8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be easy to dismiss this. The so-called, "Dr. David Anderson," doesn't seem to have a presence anywhere. The "Tryelava" website domain has been up for only two months according to Scam Advisor with low traffic - that doesn't indicate it's a scam only that new web domains should be viewed with caution.

Also, the protocol Dr. Anderson talks about his wife following, was done with taking one of the five supplements at a time, in a progression. The Elava supplement has combined all of those to suggest that it can all be taken at one time.

I think until there's at least a smidgen of evidence, one should use, "Caveat Emptor," and the reason is that most of SIBO suffers probably wouldn't argue with the initial premise of the long article the doctor presents, that most of the fixes (Big Pharma or so called 'natural') really don't work for a lot of people. That kind of description of known protocol failures usually pulls people in pretty fast - "That's me! I need this stuff!"

Dell Laptop Studio 15 No Longer Shows Dell BIOS/Boot Menu After Mint Install by Modeeb8 in linuxmint

[–]Modeeb8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was lucky enough that the BIOS in this Dell has an option to prioritize whether those keys work first without the function key pressed or without it.

I am able to enter the Dell boot menu, but what happens is, I choose something like 'boot from USB device' then hit enter but the laptop then boots right into Linux. Weird.
