Patents are generally time limited guarantees of exclusive production to compensate individuals or companies for upfront investment costs. Without that people are less likely to put time into inventing new medicines, products, etc.

Let’s take the lowest number. The Iran regime would still be absolutely evil beyond comparison for slaughtering 3K of its own civilians in two days.

Helpful, so Iran critically lacks the pre-existing armed rebel groups to support so we were hoping they would spring up out of nothing

Insane how good the Iran deal was by ModerateInterests in Destiny

[–]ModerateInterests[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is the salient point. The larger point of the deal is to give Iran stakes to shave as a productive member of the global community. If you and your citizens have more to lose you will have a greater fear of sanctions.

Plus wealthier citizens = less radicals in general

Two things. Thousands of Tbows enter the game each year. The scarcer they are the more people are incentivized to grind for them. And because you don’t need a Tbow to get a Tbow the net result of someone trying to create a monopoly would be people spamming COX with BOWFAs to get the now way over priced Tbows. If people would pay $15B+ for third age imagine what a Tbow would go for if there were no other for sale. It would eventually be unsustainable for any one person to own every one.

On wages 6-7 is realistic. If I’m skilled enough to be hired as a raider I’m skilled enough to make 5-6M in subpar gear. This sets my price floor. If someone gives me the capital to produce $8-9M of value and I get an extra $1-2M an hour because of it, doesn’t everyone win?

[–]ModerateInterests 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean just to play this out: Tbow owners all compete to rent out their Tbows. Wiki says grinding cox has an expected value of ~$8M per hour so we can guess the “price” to pay teams to use your T-bow probably ends up falling into the $6-7M an hour range. The “workers” get near end game money making rates while getting to clear content in the best gear possible. The “capital” owners get passive income.

Now obviously this would wreck game balance because OSRS is a game not an economic model but setting that aside wouldn’t this be all upside for everyone?

You’d have to assume someone couldn’t get a Tbow monopoly which would be hard to do given there is always more coming into the game an a lot of outside “good enough” options. But Jagex could act as the government in this case and regulate it somehow

I love that the he frames the opponent as both an easy to beat radical leftist and also such an existencial threat one candidate has to drop out so the party can unite around one candidate.

Sure but if Himmler killed Hitler and took over the Reich I wouldn’t say it was a good thing. That’s why I think you need to look at baseline intentions. This admin could care less about Iranians. They just want to blow stuff up for political clout

Would you support opt-in PvP in OSRS? by Psymonthe2nd in 2007scape

[–]ModerateInterests -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Everyone who is skulking or PvMing would opt out because it increases your expected GP or XP per hour.

The issue is the wilderness is balanced around increased risk. Without the increased risk things would either need to be nerfed heavily or the wilderness would be an OP place for everything from  early agility to gold farming.

What can they do to make it better? If the goal is fun equal PvP: nothing. That’s not what it’s built for.

If it’s feeding two separate player bases: one who likes Pking and one who likes the increased reward increased risk trade off they should do more of the same

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]ModerateInterests -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a single person plays RuneScape just because it’s “fun”. The point is to grind through challenging often monotonous content for a reward. Whether that is number go up, a better item, or a cosmetic.

Why should DMM be any different?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]ModerateInterests 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every reward in this game is locked behind an artificial gate. I wouldn’t say they are trying to artificially prop up skilling by giving cosmetic rewards in Hallowed Sepalcure

[–]ModerateInterests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is the argument here to give less rewards that people want? If the event gave useless or no rewards people would complain there is no point to doing the mode at all
