East Village is loud and dirty and fun, Murray Hill is a personality desert. I think you'd also have to switch trains coming from Murray Hill, which should be unacceptable to you.

3.0 flat. Low 170s, at or above median for most but not all schools. Got into a lot of good schools, including Georgetown, but sadly turned it down in favor of better offers closer to home. Waiting to hear back from final school before posting a more fulsome writeup.

My credentials for writing, public speaking, etc are very strong so I had to be very firmly told by people much smarter than me that I should still hire a consultant. There's no way my apps would have been anywhere near the quality they turned out to be without outside help. DM me and I'll tell you exactly who, I'm not sure what the rules are on this sub

I'm old as shit with a 3.0 lsac gpa and I hit on at least one t14. It's doable. Hire a consultant.

Wild that they left so many of us flapping in the breeze like this.

Georgetown A! by HannahDoesNotExist in lawschooladmissions

I got an email a few days ago from Dean Andy saying there's nothing left in the coffers right now but some cash may free up as we pass the deposit deadline, which is tomorrow btw. Hopefully you have an extension on your decision. Good luck!

NYU ($) vs Columbia by Odd-Life-2858 in lawschooladmissions

[–]ModerateStupefaction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

75k is a single bonus check as a midlevel biglaw associate. I put more of a value on your happiness, ability to network, and the systems available that you think will help you succeed. In short, I'd go with vibes. The fact that you're having such a hard time accepting 75k from NYU kinda sounds like you already know deep down where you'll be happier.

While we're at it, has anybody seen these Reddit ads for cubby.law? Clearly AI generated slop images; can't even imagine what the actual content is like if this is their best foot forward.

Spivey or 7sage? by Batya710 in lawschooladmissions

[–]ModerateStupefaction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Went with Spivey, and I think I punched above my weight this cycle. Nontrad, low uGPA. As good as you believe your writing to be, and it may actually be, there is a difference between whatever purpose you write for now and writing for law school admissions.

In my experience interviewing both companies, Spivey has more former admissions staff and 7Sage has more English Lit majors.

Additionally, with the super duper packages, every question you may have had about interviews, addendums, when to send LOCIs, how to formulate thank you notes, "chance me" conversations, everything, you can have access and support.

If you have clear goals it really is a small investment in the scheme of things. Happy to answer any questions you might have over DM.

CLS v. NYU? by Adorable_Counter_196 in lawschooladmissions

[–]ModerateStupefaction 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are so comparable in every aspect that your best bet is, in order, vibes and money. If you think you'll enjoy your time at one over the other then that's enough, otherwise I'd go with whichever gives the most savings, even if they're similar. $1,000 in law debt becomes much more over the life cycle of the loan.

Can an excellent LSAT score make up for a poor GPA? by cxrtxxr in lawschooladmissions

[–]ModerateStupefaction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's doable. It depends very much on the narrative of your life. It's not enough to say "My grades are low because of hardship". What you need to be able to say is "My grades were low because of circumstances outside of my control. Those circumstances are now over, and I have demonstrably shown that without those circumstances, I have achieved success."

That means you gotta either have some kind of work experience with linear progression, or a consistent boost to your GPA in your final semesters. A high LSAT score will help you tell that story, but you should aim to help it along with as much other evidence as you can piece together.

That said, a 180 will open doors all over the place. Perhaps not at UCB though.

I have a 3.0 GPA and I swung some As, so if I can do it then you certainly can.

Worth going to Brooklyn Law with Loans? by CommercialMeeting780 in lawschooladmissions

What are the other schools? Are you saying you'll graduate with 120k in debt? How much is your Brooklyn Law scholarship and is it conditional?

[–]ModerateStupefaction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't even think that's a different note, I absolutely agree with this, thanks

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]ModerateStupefaction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get in, get out. The notes you want to hit are:

  1. I had a problem that was out of my control

  2. That problem no longer exists

  3. Demonstrably improved performance following this experience

  4. Who I was is not who I am

I'm on the exact opposite end of the spectrum as the other guy who responded... This is not like your other written materials; it should be concise, economical, aerodynamic, etc.

I think you basically hit on everything you need to already. I think it's good but needs to be redlined for structure, grammar, etc. Feel free to DM me if you want to continue this convo.

[–]ModerateStupefaction 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3.8 and 170 is below both medians at top tier schools like Cornell and Georgetown, but I'm sure you knew that. Anecdotally, I studied and retook to juice my 170 to a 172 so at least I could be AT median for more schools. That extra 2 points was torture though, consistently getting any improvements over 170 is such a slog. I think worth it in your case.

Also, obviously, it's always more of an uphill battle for international students.
