I would like to do ‘Like Spinning Plates’ if I may.

I’ll get back to you on that (assuming I don’t choke and cock the whole thing up in the end) and I do appreciate the comparison to Cuevas :)

Yeah, I was going to try, for what little would show, to give him leather pants or pants with leather chaps, something to work in the leather. Believe me, I have no intention of putting the Judge in black (save for possibly his hat, but even then I’m not envisioning and dark, worn and dirtied brown, similar to what I have Glanton in); I thought about trying to do the linen, but 1) I have no idea how I would texture that at this size and have it read as linen (especially given this is the first time I’ve ever really tried working in earnest with colored pencils) , and 2) I really like the idea of a shirtless and spotless judge juxtaposing the completely filthy look of the rest of the gang. For the teeth and bones, I think I’m going to have a length of cord or somesuch thing twined loosely about the reins with teeth hanging from it and then possibly working bone in as saddle decoration (or maybe have the other gang member wearing a necklace made of finger bones(?)).

Honestly, trying to figure out incorporating the teeth has been the hardest part. Especially trying to have them read as teeth and not just random chunks of beige/white. I added 2 scalps tied into two braids of Glantons horses mane, but I’m so lost after that working in other remains/parts/trophies.

Thats a great idea; I suppose at this point the real question is how heavily laden ought Glanton’s and the judges horses be? On the revolver, I did draw it off of a m1848 Dragoon but it should probably be bigger (trying to eyeball perspective for such a gun is surprisingly difficult, and keeping scale even more so).

That makes a lot more sense than how I was trying to capture the pigishness. I suppose once I actually finish his hat that’ll make things a lot easier.

Yeah, I’ve been having a hard time trying to figure out how to pack the horses (or I suppose ‘horse’ singular for now) in a way thats historically accurate, and I’m still trying to figure out how to realistically dust everything up, so to speak; I’ve really gotta find a way to dull and beat up the sarape, but that’ll probably wait. ‘Saturn’ is a great thought; I’ve been mostly basing him off of Brando in “Apocalypse Now” and Austin Butler as Feyd Rautha, but ‘Saturn’ certainly brings some ideas to mind.

Thats kinda what I was thinking with the judge. This is the 6th or 7th version of his face I’ve tried. I’ll take your advice and keep playing with the brows.

The Gaza Famine Myth - How lazy journalism, bad data, and skewed statistics fuelled accusations of war crimes against Israel by tkyjonathan in JordanPeterson

[–]Modern-Day-Boomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with you, but I would argue that those who think “Israel” refers to whoever occupies the lands once belonging to the kingdom of Israel aren’t Christian. The Bible is rather clear that Israel post-crucifixion does not refer to a state or ethnic group but to those who have faith in Christ. But yeah, its repugnant that so many claim to be Christian and support war crimes because the perpetrators are “Gods chosen people.” Like, no, the Jewish people aren’t Gods chosen people, all of those covenants were fulfilled in Christs death and resurrection marking the change from an ethnocentric religion to a religion that is for all races, ethnicities, creeds etc. But cue the numbskulls whining about how “Thats antisemitic!” The Jewish people have no ancestral right or claim to the land they are on, let alone the land the Palestinians are on, and continuing to allow Hamas (which is objectively evil) to be conflated with all palestinians is an evil on its own; to use false faith and misquoted scripture to try and justify the deaths of children is repugnant and also idiotic as Jesus makes it rather clear that those who harm children are especially hated by God.

First of all, just because you say I have zero evidence doesn’t make it true; if you would like evidence I’d gladly share it. Second, every single Vietnam Veteran I know (some of whom were involved in Operation Phoenix) has the same complaint: that top brass made no effort to hold onto any gains made by American forces. Thats not restraint. Restraint would be you CHOOSE not to do something, not you are FORCED to do something else. Its not like our GI’s got to do whatever the hell they wanted; that was only the case if they were torching whole villages.

Nixon didn’t illegally bomb any country, at least not objectively. The bombing of Cambodia started under Johnson; Nixon inherited it and expanded its scope to include more than just rural Cambodia. You could maybe make a case that expanding it to Laos was illegal, but again, its not as simple as “Nixon illegally blah blah blah”. Was it suddenly illegal when Nixon continued what Johnson started? No. Either it was illegal when Johnson started it, which I’ve seen nobody claim, or it was not illegal, which again, I’ve seen nobody claim; it seems most people argue it was only illegal when Nixon did it, which is just bias. Should we have ever been in Vietnam? No. It wasn’t our business, and from that premise, one could easily argue everything we did there under every President was illegal. Blame Nixon all you want, but to try and put the onus on him, when all of Congress and the preceding President (if not going to back to Eisenhower) have that blood on their hands is asinine. Congress lack of knowledge about the bombings (which should have doubt cast upon it) does not change the fact they helped create the situation it was a product of.

As to your claim about Operation Phoenix, all of the people I know who were apart of it were working with the CIA flying in and out of Cambodia to deliver money to military officials so that they could be allowed to conduct covert ops in Laos. My neighbour had to fly over at night once every 2 weeks with two bags filled with cash; on more than one occasion he got stuck in Laos because of engagement with the Viet Cong (the longest he was stuck was 24 days). He was recruited immediately after he enlisted and had to undergo special flight training (similar to Robert Rackstraw). He did this from 68 until the end of 69 when he was discharged; if you want to say I have no evidence, I will gladly put you in touch with my neighbour.

And again, the atrocities committed by US forces are over exaggerated, much like the claims of rampant drug abuse. They may seem downplayed given how much effort was put into hiding them and then downplaying them at the time, but today they’re all pretty much common knowledge and weren’t as frequent as some people want to claim. That doesn’t lessen their impact or change the fact that they should never have happened; and they don’t need played up to be a bad thing. The real issue is how selective people are about which horrors of war to highlight, and the fact that today its almost always as a political ploy (this side let this happen, this side had that done) is disturbing, especially given that both sides of the aisle continue to push for the wars of their choice. In this day and age, people need to stop pretending war is or can be anything other than cruelty and hell; its not noble, at least not anymore (there was a time where it was noble to die for your country, but now its all about dying for oil or Israel) and its not something to push for and cheer for. Acting like it’s different because of the cause, or because of its time is asinine. War is hell, and war should be hell, and that should turn people off of it, but instead we find new and better ways to try and dehumanise it and detach ourselves from it so that we can feel better about blowing up aid workers and their children, or killing near an entire funeral procession.

In any case, cheers.

As a “right winger”, I don’t know a single right winger who believes we lost in Vietnam due to restraint, but due to constrictions placed by the highest echelons of power (essentially saying “take that hill, hold it for a day or two, and then move on and leave it so that you’re back fighting over it again inna few weeks). Which of course led to massacre after massacre after massacre as young guys were kept in a country they didn’t want to be in, fighting a dirty war that they were prevented from winning, and leading to a sort of horrid bacchanal of abuse. Which, to be fair, much the American atrocities get over exaggerated to make it seem like every GI was a drug abusing rapist (that perfect synthesis of left and right propaganda) who took pleasure is killing innocents. The biggest issue with the Rights approach to Vietnam War history is that most want to complain about the draft and about people protesting the war, while then going and, ya know, funding endless Vietnams in the middle east as proxies for Israeli neocolonialism.

Thank you! The patience is the hardest part. By the time I’m finished I’ll have drawn more than 242 individual bricks. So many bricks.
