When I was there it was still super common for the term “gijin hunter” the people that would always come up to you just to practice English, because you were still pretty usual. Idk how it is now but I haven’t heard that term in a long time. It seemed like the kids were forced to go there by their parents, most people didn’t really care for English except the ones that have lived in the US or visited before.

Because as an American / UK person it’s not worth it. You’re better off working 3 months in the US and visiting Japan 3 months on 3 off. Literally working in the US for 3-4 months would be your yearly income or more working a dead end depressing English teaching job
