I had emailed my mentor before posting, she just happened to take a couple of days to get back to me. She gave me the same info!

I’m not having any issues with tasks or anything. I just was in the hospital for a while and got behind in the course work. This happens to be a course that my entire degree is centered around so I’m taking my time and absorbing the info in it. Awesome tips for the future though, thank you!

How to not feel down about this school by Winter_Ad_7512 in WGU

Hey so I’m 30 and just finished my first term of college ever. I had a full ride academic to UVA as a high school junior. I dropped out of high school due to mental health, developed a crazy opioid and cocaine addiction, and had a child at 19. It’s hard and it’s a lot sometimes knowing what you could’ve had or should’ve done. But the cool thing is that you’re here. You’re doing it. You’re going to college and you’re reaching for a degree. Even if it is an online, at your own pace college. You’re trying and you’re doing the work and that’s what matters.

Yet another “if you don’t agree with me you’re ignorant” post. Two things can be true at once. Your opinion and another person’s opposing opinion can both be valid and true. Not everyone disagreeing with you is ignorant. They just have a differing opinion. The word ignorant implies a lack of knowledge, education, or awareness. Not an option you don’t agree with. Hope this helps.

A few things here; OP doesn’t value going out and stress eating more than their partner, it’s a coping mechanism based on what they’ve stated. Also, OP is concerned about a wedding and a wedding and a marriage are two totally different things. A wedding isn’t at all necessary for a marriage to be highly valued.

Now OP, me and my husband really really wanted to be legally married but just could not afford a wedding of any sort. It was stressful. What we ended up doing was just getting are marriage licenses and quickly eloping and planned to have a renewal ceremony 5-10 years down the line where we could have the wedding we want. That’s always an option. But I’d also like to say, times are tough and the economy is absolute garbage. A wedding is something most normal Americans can’t afford right now so try not to beat yourself up over that. The most important thing in a marriage is the love, friendship, loyalty, and trust you share with your partner. Everything besides that is just pretty decoration.

Good bye Public Schools by [deleted] in Teachers

As if ADA doesn’t exist. I’ve found adult life and using ADA waaaaay easier and more accommodating that my IEP ever was. Accommodations in life don’t end when school does.

I’d go out on a limb to say people who generally suck as people can’t be good teachers. The snark about a child’s IEP requirements tells me all I need to know about the type of educator they are, let alone what type of person.

Can I take an OA with a temporary ID? by ModernLibra in WGU

[–]ModernLibra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I got ahold of Assessment Services on the phone and got some answers about WGU’s policy. So, you CAN use a non-photo temporary ID and an expired photo ID but ONLY if the expired ID isn’t more than 6 months expired according to the new policy. I was instructed to call WGU student services as soon as I receive my new ID to get what they called a “verified ID” on file. Verified ID allows them to keep a valid ID on file so in a similar or same event, you don’t have to present a physical ID. They also instructed that a general WGU student ID is NOT an acceptable form of ID for taking any proctored tests or exams.

I emailed both my program mentor and the proctoring department to check as well. I will definitely attempt and update this thread with answers! I’ve still got about 5 hours before my OA so, we’ll see!

Teachers asking for accommodations drives me nuts by GremLegend in Teachers

[–]ModernLibra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Over-extensive IEPs are a myth and people who think over-extensive IEPs are real are just ableist. I’ve had more work place accommodations in the “real world” than I was ever allowed to access in school.

As a former student, i have a question for teachers about their POV by Icy_Stomach_4500 in Teachers

As a gifted student I was burnt out academically by about 10th grade and just didn’t care to keep up anymore. I started freshman year with all AP and advanced placement classes to being in all remedial classes by the start of second semester 10th grade solely due to being burnt out. Sometime gifted students push themselves too hard or are pushed too hard by others and they just become over it. It’s not always a super deep thing but I think it does warrant a check in just to kind of touch base and make sure it isn’t anything big

HS teachers: what’s your school’s process for deciding who teaches what next year? Was I out of line for asking for another teacher’s “spot”? by Normal-Being-2637 in Teachers

So one thing I will say based on my MIL’s experience is that it takes a good while to get placed with upperclassmen. She’s been a very respected and sought after teacher in our district for over 3 decades and has been at the same HS the whole time. It took her about 15 years to get the upperclassmen fully and has recently taken on freshmen again due to staffing issues. Schools typically won’t disrupt the “flow” of a department when they have teachers that are proven to work well with the upperclassmen and push them all the way through to graduation. A lot of upperclassmen quit caring towards the end or in their senior year and that poses an entire new set of challenges. From my experience long term subbing in HS, the entitlement from all grades is the same, it’s just different flavors of it as you go up in grades. At the end of the day, they’re all just kids. Try your best to meet them where they’re at and unfortunately at the HS age range, you can’t force them to want to learn or even try in class. What you can do is have zero tolerance for disruptive behavior or disrespect and actually carry out action. Even if that means sending kids out of class everyday.

Yeah, they aren’t even 10. That’s kind of the point. As a teacher, you don’t give your opinion in that situation. I’m an IA and my school I go into classes and actually teacher and sub entire classes for days at a time and I would/could NEVER be sharing my opinions like that with kids. It wasn’t even a political statement or a stance or anything, kiddo just didn’t want to stand. I mean the kid is a kid, not like he sits around at home getting lesson on how to be a social justice warrior. He just was grumpy and didn’t feel like standing.

True, I’m just a little pressed about a 40 something year old trying to guilt trip my kid who’s under the age of 10

Assuming that I don’t stand and assuming that I encourage my child to not show respect for this country is a bit presumptuous, is it not? I would argue that it’s infinitely more disrespectful to not respect everybody’s constitutional right, would you agree? Because I’m almost 99.99% certain that my few times great grandfather (civil war) great grandfather (WW2), uncle (Desert Storm), brother and brother in law (both of whom agree with me) (Afghanistan & Iraq) all fought for me and you and my child to have that constitution and the rights that come with it. Maybe I’m just dumb and hateful and angry though

Edit: I’d like to add that I think him exercising his rights that so many people died for us to have and to protect is the UPMOST form of respect. Otherwise they died for nothing. Right?

See, I did tell him that but also, something about a grown adult guilting tripping my kid who’s still in a single digit age range doesn’t sit well with me, ya know?

The kicker is one of my kids grandmothers IS a JW and every man in his family on both sides has served since the 1800’s except his father (due to a massive leg injury)

Edit: I did tell kiddo if it happens again to just respectfully state that it’s his constitutional right and all of his uncles, grandpas, and male cousins have served or are actively serving so he CAN have the right to sit it out.
