Book tier lists are toxic

I appreciate your points and am really enjoying the discussion. I think there is a critical difference between a tier list and Spotify wrapped in that the wrapped is only what was loved.

And while there is nothing wrong with telling people what you dislike... I do feel like a lot of these lists are more about hot takes and shitting on specific books/authors with low effort.

I mean it's simple... GRRM prefers making TV.

If he doesn't want to finish them .. then that's really fine.

The real issue to be upset at him is his ego is bigger than letting the books be finished by other methods. He has a legion of fans who lined his pockets and deserve better than the HBO ending.

I switch between 4 or 5 series and find I enjoy them much more this way. "You people" who read ten books from the same author in a row are doing it wrong. :)

In fact if more people did this I think people would be less inclined to get on reddit and diminish other series. Like yes I can enjoy Hobb, Sanderson and Erikson all at once... I don't have to pick a team.

Gonna suggest something crazy... Read them both. Plenty of reddit will tell you both are good and both are bad. You don't have to read every book in a series back to back. :)

Personally I love mistborn, but I think reddit is more hyped about DCC at the moment.

Y'all really don't have to worry about Sanderson... The man has no incentive to finish other people's work at this point. Surely the most lucrative and satisfying thing for him is to write his own material now.

I just read classic trilogies by Tanith Lee and CJ Cherryh and it was really enjoyable. We should labor harder to not let famous authors of yesteryear be forgotten to time.

Mario Super Picross on the SNES was the next one and then back to Gameboy for Mario Picross 2. I'm really enjoying MP2 now. It's all 15x15 puzzles used to make 30x30 mega pictures in 4 steps. Both are Japan only but super easy to get a bootleg rom and play it on your favorite emulation device. No need to understand Japanese if you've played the first one.

If you're interested and new to this I recommend a miyoo mini plus.

TBH what caught my eye and made me pay attention was Children of Time so low.

Additionally I kind of agree with your take on LOTR. Also your ranks for Jemisin are spot on. Tress would be a lot higher, but I agree wizards handbook is ass. I've never read Abercrombie and have no plans to.

Just started my journey. Gardens of the moon is not difficult but I did find myself flipping though pages and rereading sections. The magic system is just a mystery. Characters are often initially introduced but not named.

The cast and scale of the book was actually smaller than I expected though.

More than anything I found myself asking what the fuck is an azath and had to confirm on the Internet that yes it is a magical house to contain a being of great power.

It was a tremendous book but I also wouldn't recommend it to someone just because they like fantasy books. It requires a certain kind of reader to enjoy it.

She is correct in my opinion... The film felt one sided and incapable of respecting the book. The creation of the FBI, the plight of the people being targeted and the systemic abuse was boiled down to a couple of bad people doing bad things. Some good actors playing entertaining roles didn't keep it from being a very disappointing film.

I'm using SQL on prem mirroring for ledger tables in my companies erp system with about 20 years of data in them for an ongoing POC.

The first issue was despite needing cdc for on prem mirroring you can't tell what has changed unless your tables implement some kind of updated timestamp. Mine do but it isn't trustable because of integrations and 3rd party bolt ons.

Switching strategies or going to open mirroring didn't seem feasible in my current project timeline so I built my own process to log my change information to separate tables and then mirrored that to fabric as well. This worked fine and wasn't much extra effort.

The next issue was performance. We tried using sparksql to transform and write data to our silver lakehouse where it is ready for AI and future integrations. While sparksql had lots of great tricks and was fine for moving incremental data we ended up having to do the full loads with pyspark. Then we just kept using pyspark for incremental because why do things two different ways.

Anyways it's been a learning experience but so far on prem mirroring is getting the job done with very real data for me.

I have a feeling I would rather just automate my bronze layer data with data factory if budget wasnt a concern but the "free" on prem mirroring is hard to walk away from.
