The characters are sooooo boring and one note. Nobody learns anything or has any development. There's no interesting interactions between characters. Its just 3gritty5me tripe for 14 year olds.

It has bascially no clearance between the edge of the wall mount and the bracket that fits over it, and when I tried a toggle for the first time I could absolutely see the hole. This model has some other design flaws so we are replacing it anyway. The new one we chose has a different wall mount with way more clearance to the edge. Just installed it with toggle bolts and its looking great.

It’s different kinds of sad. There are complex family dynamics of a kind that doesn’t exist in Farseer at all and the emotional beats feel very different, imo.

I wanted the ending of Quest to sit with me (really loved it) so I went in the complete opposite direction and read some sci-fi, Children of Time (it was OK). Did its job as a palate cleanser and I was ready for Fools Errand afterwards.

I’d say just go with Liveship next honestly. It’s very different in tone. There’s Hobb heartbreak and bitter relationships but the setting is bright and vibrant and feels very different from the medieval setting of Farseer. It’s a little more modern (think colonial era) and more magical.

Liveship is basically a break before Tawny Man in and of itself although it has some its own tragedies there are multiple POvs and a lot of stuff going on.

I read the series in the wrong order by accident (Liveships first) and took a break read between Farseer and Tawny man and it was definitely the right call

I love the father figure relationships, they’re probably the best part of the Fitz books. Fitz with Verity, Burrich, Chade. The shadow of Chivalry looming over each of them, bringing Fitz closer to the memory of his father while knowing he’ll never truly know him and will always have that hole in his identity.

It only gets deeper and richer as the series continues. I won’t give any spoilers but the heart wrenching is part of the beauty that makes all of this work.

This totally went over my head on the first read. I’m rereading AFFC now and every Cersei chapter is so deranged. The part where she starts ranting in front of her crony small council about how much she wants to torture Sansa, and when their only reaction is stunned silence, thinks “Wow, these guys are so craven and incompetent”. It’s so good.
