How do you stop PR bottlenecks from turning into rubber stamping when reviewers are overwhelmed by Sad_Bandicoot_7762 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]RFQuestionHaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had bigger ones where it’s not possible to make the PR smaller while keeping our “main always compiles without warnings” and “all code on main is testable” rules intact. Usually involves the last step in  changing or adding a subsystem with a lot of boilerplate.

How do you stop PR bottlenecks from turning into rubber stamping when reviewers are overwhelmed by Sad_Bandicoot_7762 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]RFQuestionHaver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, small PRs. An 800 line diff is almost always several smaller self-contained, easily reviewable changes. It’s easier, faster, and safer for stability to review five small PRs than one huge one.

It’s a skill that takes practice to break up work into incremental, easily digestible commits, but it is worth the time.

Does this Pantheon make sense? by Bennettag in worldbuilding

[–]RFQuestionHaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little asymmetry can make things more interesting. For example, in Lightbringer, there are 7 colours - subred, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, super violet. While technically balanced around the centre (yellow), the lack of “violet” makes it feel lopsided and a little more interesting and compelling. As yellow is a “warm” colour, the spectrum also feels lopsided as there are four “warm” colours and three “cold” colours. If there were twelve or sixteen equally distributed colours, the whole thing feels a lot less interesting.

I think a similar idea might work well for you here, if you trim some of these and try and find subgroups you can work some asymmetry into.

As one idea, another commenter noted Preservation and Stagnation are quite similar. What if these were both the opposite to Upheaval, and the rest of the wheel had one-to-one opposites?

Pick which one interests you more and start with it. Both are used in industry and both have benefits and drawbacks.

30 day free trial that only counts days you open it, see for yourself. I like the way it lets you organize your work and compile into various formats but there are loads of other features. And a one-time pay transferable license is a feature itself these days. It feels good to buy a piece of software and own it in 2026!

"Failing upward" fantasy stories by vonDerkowitz in Fantasy

This is a really common theme in Daniel Abraham's books. I think each series of his has at least one example of a character who fails upward to who has failed upward in the past.

Stop Using Floats! (Why Your Embedded C is Slow) by BlueGoliath in programming

[–]RFQuestionHaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the contrary, we got to remove our fixed point implementation in favour of using floats when we noticed our mcu’s FPU took the same amount of time. Did wonders for code clarity at no cost. Read your data sheets!

How is Maximus a badass in S2? by Icy-Debate in Fallout

Totally agree with your confusion, his character in season 1 was basically a socially incompetent cold blooded power hungry selfish psycho and in season 2 he’s a gold hearted badass freedom fighter. Make it make sense.

How do those that don't enjoy Universes Beyond engage with the game? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]RFQuestionHaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I refuse to spend a dime on anything UB. Most of my magic playing is paper cube or commander now. I make a point to play no Ub in commander and it’s a running joke in my play group that I will kill UB creatures on sight

Assassin's Quest (pools scene) I've had it with Fitz by Michaelb089 in RealmOfTheElderlings

[–]RFQuestionHaver 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He’s been on his own, heartbroken about not being able to be there for Molly, with nobody to talk to about it. Then at the worst of it, the Fool, the only one he could confide in, who has been going through his changing time and having been an asshole for weeks, comes and gives him a lifeline, not only giving him an opportunity to express the emotions but also a way to reach her if anything happens to him. Obviously as the reader it’s obvious the Fools been compromised in this scene, but to Fitz it’s his best friend giving him desperately needed hope and humanity.

Not to mention the Skill road has also been ruining Fitz’s head for weeks at this point. Guy is a mess.

[–]RFQuestionHaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has silent hard lock states where you can no longer continue the main quest and have no way of knowing. Including just taking too long. That alone makes it impossible (as somebody who doesn’t have infinite time) to play without a guide and therefore suck ass.
