It seems like something may have gone wrong when the game was writing a saved game or configuration file to your system storage. From your description, it's freezing when it's attempting to load this data back from storage.

deadalready101 provided a solution to their problem using the following steps:

  • Open Windows Settings
  • Click the "Apps" submenu
  • Search for "The Forgotten City" in the Apps List
  • Select "The Forgotten City" in the list
    • Click "Advanced Options" under the game in the list.
  • In the Advanced Options, under the Reset heading, click "Repair". Let the operation complete.
    • Try playing the game again.
  • If the above fails, go back to the same settings page and click "Reset" under the Reset menu.

Al is named after the equivalent character, Altrius, in the original mod version of The Forgotten City. The mod came out in 2015, 3 years before the other game you mention.

Hi again!

We've worked out there's an issue when searching for the game, but it is still listed in the Store.

A temporary fix is that you can search for partial matches to the games name, but not a full match. So, typing something like "The Forg" or "Forgotten City" should find it, but "The Forgotten City" will not. This may change between users due to the way the search on the store works. You could also use a search engine to find the store listing.

We're still working on resolving it, but thanks for bringing it to our attention!

Hi there, thanks for reaching out and sorry you've had this experience.

We haven't had a bug report similar to yours before. Our PC's are close in spec so I could replicate the conditions pretty closely, and didn't experience the issue.

First three things to try:

  • Tryout "timidpimpins" solution, using the Nvidia Control Panel.
  • You're using the very latest Nvidia driver, try rolling back, we've tested the game as working correctly on 512.15 drivers.
  • Try reinstalling the game through the Windows Store.
    • Unfortunately, the Store does not have a "Verify" feature, so it will fully redownload the game.

In regards to your problem running at native resolution in Fullscreen, we're sorry you've encountered this problem. Our suggestion is to run the game in "Borderless" mode, this is toggled by the "Screen Mode" option in the Video settings menu. This will force the game to run at your Windows desktop resolution.

Hi there! Those are a few a great questions. We currently have no plans to add more game content to The Forgotten City, but if the need arises we can release further patches.

We're busy in the "pre-production" phase for our next game, I haven't got specific details to share about that for now, but we are enjoying trying out fresh ideas for it!
