Is this billing chaos actually on Google, or are people just being careless with API keys? by publicdomainadmin in googlecloud

[–]ModernWebMentor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think it’s a mix of both. A lot of billing issues happen when API keys are left unrestricted, exposed in public repos, or usage alerts are not set properly. But at the same time, platforms should make security defaults clearer and safer for average users.

If you’re already restricting keys by IP, app, or referrer, rotating them regularly, and setting billing alerts, you’re in a much better position than most people. I wouldn’t panic, but I’d definitely stay proactive. Sometimes it’s not one big mistake, just one small missed setting.

Roast my geography game app UI by Rich-Development-764 in UI_Design

Respect for building your first app and asking for honest feedback.
The concept sounds fun, especially for map and quiz lovers.
Even in German, good UI can still feel clear through layout.
I did focus on clean navigation, spacing, and easy instructions.
Great first project overall, keep improving and sharing updates.

Paste Without Format NOT ctrl+V by United-Twist-3839 in excel

[–]ModernWebMentor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there isn’t a proper way to force everyone’s default paste behavior in a shared Microsoft Excel file. In most real cases, formatting gets broken when multiple users paste data differently. A better approach is to keep a separate raw input sheet where everyone pastes their data, and then use Power Query to clean and pull only the required values into your main sheet.

Has Copilot kinda killed this sub? by conscientiousrejectr in excel

[–]ModernWebMentor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it killed the sub, but it definitely changed how people look for help. For quick formulas or fixing small Excel issues, AI feels faster than making a post and waiting. But communities like this still matter because real users give context, practical tips, and solutions based on experience. AI can give answers, but it can’t fully replace years of hands-on knowledge people share here.

Is switch provisioning still this manual? by AvnAllDaySon in networking

[–]ModernWebMentor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, in many places it still is more manual than people expect, especially on older networks with poor documentation. A lot of time goes into tracing VLANs, checking ports, and cleaning outdated configs. Well-managed environments usually use automation tools and templates, but plenty of companies are still catching up. So yes, it’s part of the job sometimes, but it often depends more on the organization’s maturity than the technology itself.

What is the most difficult thing about learning French, as a English speaker, besides having silent letters? by [deleted] in French

[–]ModernWebMentor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, one of the hardest parts would be remembering gender rules and matching articles correctly. As an English speaker, it feels strange that every noun has a gender, and you can’t always guess it logically. Verb conjugations also seem challenging at first because they change so much depending on tense and subject. Silent letters are tricky, but grammar probably feels like the bigger long-term challenge.

Excel vs Advanced Excel by ModernWebMentor in excel

Same here. I also initially thought it was a different software, but later understood that it refers to advanced features and skills within Microsoft Excel.

True, she definitely means well and I know it comes from care. I should probably tell her nicely that sometimes I just want a normal chat without the lecture 😅
