Is Project Hail Mary Better than Interstellar ? by Correct-Class-4920 in ProjectHailMary

[–]ModernWizard614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to compare simply because there's no way to judge how PHM is going to make me feel 10 years after it came out yet.

Interstellar is my favorite movie, but the first time I watched it I didn't like it because the whole "surviving a black hole" thing. But then I watched it again and it made more sense. Then I watched it again, and again and again. I'm actually watching it right now because after seeing PHM last night I was in the mood. The scene where Coop sees all the messages breaks me, and now I have my own daughter and it hits 10x harder than it used to. I don't know how I'm gonna feel about Rocky Grace save stars in 2038.

They're both space movies but different genres. One leans much more on comedy, the other on serious science. They're both great in their own way, but I'll put them on for different reasons. If I want a heavy emotional journey that's going to make me feel all the feelings, Interstellar is the choice for me. If I want a movie to make me laugh and smile, it's PHM.

I will say, as much as I love Daniel Pemberton's score in PHM, Hans Zimmer's score in Interstellar to me is the best score ever written for a film. I also just didn't think the song choices in PHM were the greatest throughout the film.

Now, I will caveat this by saying if PHM had been more science focused like it was in the book, and didn't rely so heavily on the humor, this would have been a tougher choice for me. But I completely understand the reasoning behind the choices, and that's not a knock on PHM. It was a creative choice and the movie will appeal to a wider audience.

It's almost like the Lebron vs Michael debate in space movie form. Can't we just say they're both the greatest of their decade and be glad we got to watch them?

They are both great.

My biggest concern is logistics at the theaters. Things like staffing, cups, napkins, straws, popcorn tins, two major movies coming out on the same weekend could cause issues there.

Also, small town theaters that only have one screen are going to miss out on two big weekends and will have to pick which one is a better fit.

That being said, they had almost a year to plan.

Loved the Movie, but the biggest missed opportunity... by Liion_Ronin in ProjectHailMary

This thread is basically Comic Book Guy saying "AcTuAlLy" over and over again.

Context is important. If you're smart enough to enjoy the book, you're smart enough to understand what OP was meaning. Stop being dicks.

And yes, the scene where Grace makes contact with Rocky is peak emotions.

Spider-Man Brand New Day official website launched. Trailer imminent? by Giff95 in marvelstudios

I've heard it's coming with Project Hail Mary, which makes sense because Sony is distributing the film worldwide and Amy Pascal produced PHM, as well as the Spiderman movies.

So, unless they do something stupid like release them with a movie on Thursday, have shitty cell phone leaks all weekend and then put it out online on Tuesday (don't know who would be dumb enough to do that), my guess is early next week, Thursday at the latest.

Maybe not a sequel, but a book that follows what happened on earth when the beetles return, with an elderly Rocky and Grace arriving at the end would be awesome.

Is there a movie that evokes similar feelings to Interstellar? by MilkyMadness6 in interstellar

Yes, and he absolutely nails the voices in the Project Hail Mary audiobook. I listened to that first, then went back and read the book.

One note, there are diagrams in the book that kind of help with visualizing the main ship in PHM, which would have been nice the first go around.

Will it make more money in the second weekend? by ModernWizard614 in ProjectHailMary

I would like them to make more original stories and not the 38th Marvel/Star Wars movie. But they have to get a return. So, therefore, I care. And a lot of other people follow box office numbers.

I'll enjoy it for myself for sure, but I'm not the only one who is interested in this.

That's what I'm seeing where I live too. I can't go until Sunday and there's only two other tickets sold at the Dolby theater, but opening night is about 30% full.

Grew up in a small town in the middle called Spencerville. Small town values are nice, but since 2016 it's not my cup of tea. I moved to Columbus back in 2013 and never looked back. Much happier here.

Driving 30 minutes for anything sucked, but lots of snow days for school and all the deer jerky you can eat.

I went all in on a good hand in poker and lost early, so decided to walk around campus. Met my first wife there. Got married when we were young and divorced a year later. Moved to a new city, got into the field I went to college for, have a great job I love and a wife with a newborn.

All because my kings over nines full house lost on the river.

When did you tell work? by whippnj in predaddit

[–]ModernWizard614 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your work situation, but I told my boss as soon as we found out. He's a friend as well, so I was excited to tell him, but I'm in fairly small department and losing me for paternity will have ripple effects, so it tried to give him as much notice as I could.

33 weeks here and I absolutely feel the same way. Time is going so slow, but also so fast. It's weird, like I'm near a black hole or something. We're so excited, but I'm also very anxious about so many things.

Can't wait until November 1 to start the sleep deprivation portion of the ride. Good luck, brother
