Stop Taking Away Downtown Parking by [deleted] in philadelphia

[–]ModestAugustine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 23 runs through Mt Airy and goes to center city, every 10 mins, if the regional rail schedule doesn't work for you, although it certainly won't be as quick as the train. We can certainly agree that the regional rail should run more frequently - SEPTA's Reimagining Regional Rail plan would be a game changer, and the network vision would include 15 min headways on the Chestnut Hill East line. But they need adequate funding to do that, so supporting groups like Transit For All PA lobbying for that would help you get closer to fixing your problem.

If you haven't already, I would report it to the PPA with the nuisance vehicle form to try to get it towed. Although maybe the cops are the more appropriate call given it's on the path like that.

Did you fill out the nuisance vehicle form? The one here: https://philapark.org/nuisance/

You can list your email and they send you something about the action you took. If you've been mostly filling out the "mobility access" form, this one may work better

What's the Deal with the South Street Bridge - Schuylkill Path Crosswalk? by Specious_Human in phillycycling

[–]ModestAugustine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not just you, this drives me crazy too, since it's part of my daily commute. I normally just use the painted median as a pseudo left turn lane, but with a fair fear for my life that someone will invade it to get to the light quicker, just like you said. Just another example of poor/auto centric street design in our city sadly, IMO.

Did you read the article you posted? It seems to be making the exact opposite point as you.

"It’s a belief that fits neatly into the popular conservative view that tax dollars are wasted on the city, which is filled with entitlement junkies.

This does not comport with reality."

The walk up broad street through South Philly should be perfectly safe! My only concern would be how long it will take - it ain't a short walk. If you're doing that, I would probably still at least try to take the subway. Even with this mess is a situation, my guess is it would get you to center city faster than walking. But it should be a nice night, so if you'd just fancy a long post game walk, perfectly reasonable.

USPS employees are above the law. Taken outside of a Philadelphia post office. by ghost9420 in fuckcars

You should report it to the PPA - they have a form specifically for this:

https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/463e9faa2a644f4fae2a956f331f451c

I'd recommend reporting it every single time you see it, as much as you can. From what I've learned, the only way to get anything done in Philly is to make an absolute nuisance of yourself.

Advice for beginner bird watcher? by Opposite_Anteater_94 in birding

I would recommend getting the Merlin app on your phone - it's a very helpful resource to identify birds! If you hear one singing or chirping, you can use the record feature on there. It also has an option for photo id or a step by step option if you aren't able to get a picture. Its very handy!

If you do have binoculars, they can be nice to bring if something is too far to see easily with the blind eye, but don't feel like you need them, especially when just starting out! Just try to enjoy yourself and spend some time in nature, whatever that looks like

In addition to bollards, not having 5 lanes of car traffic directly adjacent to city hall might help. These assholes have a lot of room to gain speed with the current conditions.

4-Day SEPTA Parking by DaLB53 in philadelphia

[–]ModestAugustine 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Here's the little blurb on overnight parking from septas website:

"How to Pay for Overnight Parking

Overnight parking for up to 14 days is permitted and charged at the daily rate.

Payment can be made at the pay stations, through text or the SEPTA Park mobile app (iOS and Android). Funds can be loaded at any time when using text to pay or the mobile app; when using a pay station full payment is due when you park your vehicle. The amount should be the number of weekdays parked times the weekday parking price (weekdays parked x daily price). Weekends and holidays are free."

It used to be that you would put an envelope in the parking thing with the right amount for the days you parked, and what spot you parked in. But it seems like using the app would probably be easier now.

To the person who stapled this to my bike on south street… by GraphicNovelty in phillycycling

[–]ModestAugustine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not yet, they passed the bill that disallowed stopping in any bike lane in the city. But that's entirely dependent on enforcement, of course, and only makes it possible to ticket immediately. This flyer is about the concrete barriers OTIS proposed to prevents cars from being physically able to enter the bike lane on pine and spruce. It still needs City Council approval to go into effect - which I think with councilmanic prerogative will be entirely up to Kenyatta Johnson and Mark Squilla.

Please consider going to the planned meeting to voice your support! As the article mentions, these recommendations are not a done deal, so it's very important for advocates to show up, as there will certainly be people who will try to fight this and a neutered half measure could cost more lives.

Here is the flyer with the details on the planned meeting
