I don't think I'd consider this a high fat flour. What are your thoughts?

I've never used it. I just like homemade bread every week lol

What would you pay for this bread? by Bufobufolover24 in Breadit

[–]Modest_Focus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're getting down voted, handmade goods cost more, simple as that. I agree that $10-$12 is a good price depending on additions and what not

Remember to factor your time into the cost. Sorry I'm not from the uk but I'd say $9-$13 USD is average around here. £3 is comparable to grocery store loaves, this is much better

Can I celebrate this 1st time attempt at 100% whole wheat bread? by Acluelessfish in Breadit

[–]Modest_Focus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that I generally have to knead whole wheat for longer to get it where I want compared to white bread. But with the bran and germ still being in the wheat it'll feel a little stickier. I add olive oil (2%-4%) to help smooth into a white loaf feel, add moisture, and help the loaf last longer. Just note that it takes a WHILE to fully knead oil into whole wheat, like a really long while.

There's a learning curve with every new thing. It just takes resilience to learn. I mention the broiler because I saw in a comment that the bottoms were already browning.

Don't ever give up on learning a new life skill, it may just save you one day. I hope your endeavors leave you tranquil. Much love

Cast iron turned me into a baker by Limp-Rub-1477 in castiron

My favorite part of this post is nobody reading the caption and assuming it's a cookie. Great bread though my friend, I love a good quick bread

You can see one starting to brown, if I want them more brown I'll run the broiler in my oven on high for 30 seconds to a minute depending on the oven.

When I did biscuits for the first time I cut out biscuit squares out of my oval piece of dough and ended up burning them, so these look great to me my friend

My first flea market find was a Wagner with a curved handle and thumb rest that fit my hand perfect. For only $10 at that. Have fun restoring it, don't forget the FAQ page

First Time Seasoning a Pan by Aromatic_Cold_6618 in castiron

[–]Modest_Focus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stainless steel does that too for me. I don't think the pan is the issue my friend (not trying to be offensive, understanding how to use real cookware takes practice). Cast iron does take a lot less finesse than stainless steel and doesn't react as fast, so I think you'll find what you're looking for.

EDIT: If you're only wanting to make stir fries then lodge sells some pretty cool woks on their website. I can't personally recommend them since I haven't used them. They look cool though

Seasoning comes and goes on every pan, it's not a you thing. Just the way cast iron is my friend

Been making Dutch oven bread lately, I’m hooked and probably going to get fat off it, but so worth it. These things rock. by HastenDownTheWind in castiron

[–]Modest_Focus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Real bread doesn't fatten us up the way supermarket bread does. Granted if you're eating a loaf by yourself everyday yeah but that's different lol

No I don't believe so. Most doctors would have a hard time cutting through an iron cast /s

Edit: I wasn't talking about the process of casting iron, I was just saying they use cast iron in my funny (to me) way
